You can find one used for around $600. You won't be disappointed.

A kimber 1911 would be great, but you need to spend another $200-300 to have it upgraded to a GREAT firearm.... but it will be worth it.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
If it has to be a plastic double-stack...XDM or FN.
STI Spartan is a heckuva 1911 for the low $6-- range.

If you decide to go with a 1911, stay away from Kimber, they have had more problems with guns in the last 3 years than any other 1911 maker, entire law enforcement depts have had to send their duty weps back to the factory

You mentioned you want to stay around 600, the last time I was in my local Basspro, they had a Ruger SR1911 for right around 600, that is a good buy

There are some good choices on the market in polymer framed .45s
Springfield XD or Glock 21 are good choices, I have both but prefer my XD`s over my Glocks

    Good luck in your decision

I think for this go around im gonna end up with the Glock 21 or XDM 45....I will go with another 1911 when i want 8+1...Like i said im looking for atleast 12+1 right now...I also have thought about a Sig 220 to go with my 226 .40 sometime...and im not really looking at a Glock 20 anytime soon the 10mm isnt what i need (if 45acp doesnt work ill get out my .44mag ) thank you all for the input....Altho now i want a Glock 34 to :p lol

It is really preference between the two you have narrowed it down to. I was looking at those same two. I chose the Glock 21 Gen 3 (current at the time) because it has proven reliability and although people say it is ugly and blocky it is a very well balanced gun. I didn't choose the XDM because I did not want the backstrap safety, as I feel more parts equals more ways for a firearm to fail.

Of your listed choices, Glock 21 (or 30) then I'd order a 10mm conversion barrel from KKM. The S&W is also a very nice gun as is the FN although it's larger.

Personally, I wouldn't own a new Kimber if you gave it to me (well I would, but I'd strip it and rebuild it ) and I routinely carry an old Kimber Pro Carry (non II) when I'm home.

XD45ACP is best Bang for the buck out there, love my 5" tactical Olive Drab with Viridian SXD.

Need to take a better pic, this celly shot is super fuzzy. The XDs are super reliable, eat up any kind of ammo, and field strip in like 20 seconds. Never had 1 FTF and dropped plenty of rounds. I really want XDM45ACP Compact but they aren't legal in Cali.

Also, metal mags instead of plastic like glocks, ambidextrous grips & mag release, and has loaded chamber indicator and no look thumb indicator if it is cocked. Best gun money spent. Groupings are super consistent as well

I'm voting for the M&P since that is my issued weapon. I have never hand any issues with the weapon and I have put close to 10,000 rounds through it.

Edit: I wan't to point out that I have the 9mm version.
