Well, I finally finished reading my owners manual (thanks to some slow days at work ) The ASL feature on the stereo is supposed to adjust the volume according to the speed you're traveling, but the owners manual skips right over how the different levels of the feature make any difference (hi, med, low). Does anyone know what happens when you adjust between the 3 levels? I also havent noticed that it is working, but then again maybe thats the point! Any tips welcome...thanks!

can't say for sure but it seems to vary the bass level. I just leave mine set on medium.

I have mine turned off. The truck is quiet enough that I don't have to adjust the levels very much and don't want some computer doing it arbitrarily.

It automatically adjusts the volume when coming to a stop and then accellerating. The three levels determines the amount of volume you want to vary.

I just finished reading the whole section on the audio system in the owner's manual and found nothing on ASL. Are you guys talking about the stock radio? I have the stock JBL system. Does it have ASL control? If it does, how do you activate it and set levels? Am I missing something?

I dont think the JBL stereo has the ASL system. Just push the tuner knob and it will scroll through the different crap (bass, treble, etc) and it would show up there if you have it. Pretty useless feature if you ask me, I don't think it works very well...

I like it too. I'm one of those drivers that likes to "crank it up" while driving but always finding myself turning it down at intersections. Mostly out of respect for other drivers as I can't stand to hear other cars music blaring right beside me. Having it do it for me automatically is great.

It's noted in my manual, push the tuner knob like you would for fader or balance, ASL will show up as an ON/OFF choice, choose on and I think there are three adjustments.

    Gentlemen,

The JBL stereo that came with my '09 Double Cab 4x4 with Bluetooth simply has an ON or OFF ASL (automatic sound leveling) system.

It is not adjustable per the manual.

I find it to be inadequate (I prefer it louder when going faster and quieter when going slower) so I use the buttons on the steering wheel.

You are correct, on/off, no adjustment, my mistake.

Have a 2017 Tacoma Sport, my ASL does not work ? Tried on, off, high, low, med. My 2016 Honda Civic work great all by it self.
Seems like it should work, after all that money Toyota wants for them. ( any help on getting ALS to work ? )

This thread got me curious, and I learned something new about my truck today! My 2011 TRD OR access cab with the JBL system with the "too fast, too fabulous" subwoofer has ASL that can be set-off, low, med, high. So many options I'll never use, this is right up there with the hill descent control button, that just sounds like it's breaking all kinds of expensive parts.

I was hoping this was some kind of reference thread to mid/late 90's AOL chat rooms.
