Pioneer's new lineup

I'm in the market to upgrade the stock HU. I was waiting for the AppRadio 2 to release. Ive been doing research on other Pioneer products when I saw the AVH-P8400BH, which is an AppRadio combined with a better looking interface. Now I'm torn, paying a little bit more but still way under $1000 and you get a much better all-around car audio, navigation experience. What do y'all think?

The dual USB for the 8400 is cool, but again, not needed for me.

I would pass on app only, a disc drive is still too valuable to me for certain applications.

I'm waiting for the 8400BH, but I want to see hear some user reviews first before getting it over the slightly cheaper 4400BH. The 8400BH has a sleek new interface over the 4400 too and has mixtrax which looks interesting. I just wonder about the "Advanced App" mode of the 8400.. I need some reviews, but we'll have to wait until it gets released to know anything further. Hopefully, it'll be in stock soon..

I think for the moderate price difference, I would get save and get the 8400 over the AppRadio2. The interface just looks nicer and it seems like the 8400 has everything the AppRadio2 has..

 

Questions to ask yourself:

1. Do you have an iOS or an Android device? The AppRadio2 is Android compatible, the 8400 is not.

2. Do you need to have a DVD (disc) player?

3. Do you have enough justification to spend the extra $180 for the 8400? or in Matt's case, and extra $400?



In my 5 minute look at the two radios, I'm guessing that an 8400 is a more featured version of the DA100, with a few minor things removed (e.g. Android compatibility). Being that the two are categorized differently on Pioneer's website, a side-by-side comparison is somewhat difficult - Crutchfield has the DA100 on their website, only if you search by model number, but can't compare it to the 8400 due to it not showing (for me) in the list of Car Receivers.

Having used both an iPhone and an Android, I feel that both of their map and nav systems are more than sufficient to wipe out any posibility of me adding in (or purchasing) a branded nav system.

Personally, if I were you, my answer of which to get would be solely dependent on the #1 question above - which device do you have that you would be connecting up to the new HU? If Android, you've only got one option. If iOS, you've got to figure out how much the additional features are worth to you.

 

I'll be connecting an iOS device. The 8400 just looks nicer to me, interface wise. I'm also concerned about not having service on the phone (say going on a road trip) and then the AppRadio only being a radio…no internet access to play pandora, or run the maps application…. The 8400 gives you best of both worlds now that I've been reading up on both. I'll probably pull the trigger on the 8400 since I was pretty much sold on the DA100 already.
