Well now I have to rant. :D

I'd rather be cussed at than called dear and hon and that kinda bs. I ignore it from my friends, but at work? Would you call anyone in your office "hon?" Probably not, because it's rude. And you'd probably hear about it from your boss. Cussing is par for the course on a drilling rig, every conversation is liberally peppered with casual cussing. But the pet names are straight-up disrespectful; unless he's going to start calling the driller or derrickman "honey buns" it's not ok. I'm not this dude's girlfriend.

It's only 1 person, the night directional driller. Everyone else just uses... My name! Holy crap, what an idea!

The other night I told him we're too close to the bottom of the target. He told me I was wrong and i just needed to chill out and he refused to adjust inclination. Well, guess who was right? Me! This kind of thing is constant. He thinks I can't do my job. And now he thinks it's ok to call me hon and dear. Are you kidding? Why doesn't he just straight up say he thinks I'm half retarded because I'm not a guy?

And then on top of that every time I ask him a question I get a snarky reply. The guy goes out of his way to be a jerk.

I just about lost it last night. I'm keeping my office door closed and not talking to him unless I have to now.

Ok. I feel better now. Kinda. LOL

Edit: Decided it was too long, chopped it down, less specifics. :)

    Beth:
I have no idea of the type of company you work for but in my opinion it is time to email and call your HR department.

Any type of abuse should not be tolorated in the workplace.

Thanks. My boss can't do much. Both my company and this guy's company are 3rd party contractors. My boss might be able to call his office or our customer and talk to them about it. But yeah, you're right. Also more effective than griping on TW ;)

You'd think he might have interacted with women outside of work at some point? He should know better.

But.. Ok. Back to the geologizing. Sorry for the hijack (although it happened while I was at work and I'm a geologist. Semi-related. :D)

I have never had to deal with this type of situation in my working years.

Griping on TW is not unknown. I will say you did it the correct way. Lots of other members do it all wrong.

From the reports I have read, they were only in the 1.25 range.

Once in a while geology does not rock. I currently have equipment leaking toxic gas into my office. And I can't find the leak. And it's chilly outside but I kinda need to leave the window open.

A gas chromatograph. Measures how much and what type of gas is coming out of the well as we drill. This one measures methane, ethane, propane, butane, and hydrogen sulfide. Too much of any of these will make you nauseated and give you a headache; hydrogen sulfide can kill you. And I keep smelling sulfur, which indicates a bit of hydrogen sulfide, but it's not causing any of the alarms to sound and I haven't keeled over dead yet, which means it's not dangerously high concentration. Still smells bad though.

You experts probably won't care but I always thought this outcrop was interesting - so many layers of black and white. It almost looks like the cross section of a tree to me.
