For the tank I mentioned above, light came on at 378 miles.

Can't go this far unless you know you can best 20. Final avg 22.4, enough to bring my fuelly avg up a tenth.

love the pic^^ never thought of doing that. I do about the same, I live in a hilly town sometimes pushing 65mph mainly 55 and under. also newer rigs need some time to loosen up.

My fuel light usually comes on when there is about 4 gallons (17 gallon mark) left in my tank. I try not to run it too low because I don't want to suck up all the dirt and stuff that has settled at the bottom of my gas tank over the years.

I'd concur with that. My fuel (trip) on the ultra-gauge read about 17 gallons when it lit up. I was wondering if I would miss it but there was no way; that fuel light is dang bright at night time.

    Yeah.
21.24 mpg on my last tank, but much of it was on higher tire pressure due to warmer weather. I lowered it, we'll see how we do on the next tank.

According to Torque on my Droid X2 and a BT OBDII adapter I got 35mpg on my 20 mile commute today. Doesn't seem right, but I tried going easy on the skinny pedal, and shifting to neutral on the down hills. I want to see what happens on the way home. lol

Downshift down hills and let the road turn your engine which uses no fuel, unlike idling which uses fuel. :)

Your fuel pickup is always at the low point in the tank, there is no dirt and stuff settled at the bottom of your gas tanks, any dirt that gets in gets sucked up as soon as it gets near the pickup.

That works great on long steep downgrades. On short mild grades neutral is usually better. If you are in neutral and have to use the brakes, in gear is usually better.

I get better mpg shifting to neutral than down shifting and pushing the RPMs up.

Still not sure I believe the numbers though. It said I got 38 mpg driving the same route in reverse on the way home, and 35/34 on the out/return 30 mile trip to meet my mom. Seems a bit high for a truck rated at 17-19 mpg highway. :notsure: I think I'll play with it some more.

Does Torque let you adjust to fit real world calculated MPG? My adjustment for my SGII is ~11% on summer gas, 13% otherwise... prior to adjusting it was showing I averaged 25+ mpg.

Same with the Ultragauge. Had to raise fuel calibration to 1.11 and distance to 1.01 to get it close.

This Tacoma 2012 V6 4L is two weeks old and getting 20.7 mpg. Daily commute is total 64 miles (16 of this 3,200' descent, climb that back home, with 32 miles of flat in between).

Your gauge is probably not set right (or they mistakenly sold you a mileage-enhanced prototype truck) but you can get significantly better mileage one way than another. My niece's boyfriend asked me why he always got better mileage driving from college to his parents' place than he did going back. I told him it was because the first trip was downhill with the prevailing wind at his back. In "flat" states you might not notice it but even Kansas drops 3000 feet from west to east.

Not that I've found. It's my phone so it uses GPS for speed and distance calculations along with the ECU. Not sure how it works though since there's no option to adjust for tire size. I'm going to read up on the app some more.

Not a lot of settings to screw up. Displacement, and C/F, mile/km type things.

In that case you'll likely have to up the displacement setting until fuel use matches what you read at the pump since that's the end number that really matters.

It's a computer model, so it'll never perfectly match real life, but a little effort can make it close.

The calculation for instantaneous mpg is miles/hr divided by gallons/hr (and the calculation for avg mpg is obvious) so if it calculates speed and distance from GPS then the tire size issue won't matter.

Recently I've been averaging about 15 mpg with city driving. I still get 20-21 mpg on the highway when I go on a long trip, but I've been getting noticeably worse city gas mileage this winter. I wonder if California is adding more ethanol into the gas now. Ethanol tends to evaporate fairly quickly, especially if it takes you a few weeks between fill-ups. Is there anyone else out there that has been experiencing abnormally bad gas mileage this winter?
