OME lift on it's way!!!

I just pulled the trigger on a complete OME lift from Wheeler's today.
90000 and N182 shocks, 884x coils and Dakars plus all the other goodies needed to install. I'm only looking for 2 inches of lift...keeping 265 tires.

Awsome. Why did you get the 884 and not the 885?

 

Yeah! I was happy with my 2.5 inch lift but soon wanted to go much higher lol cant wait 2 c it.

 

Congrats! I just installed my OME 3" lift last weekend. I couldnt be a happier camper. The ride is awesome, compared to stock.

 

I was going to get 5100's (set at 1.75) with a rear AAL. With my rear springs as bad as they are, the AAL wouldn't have lasted too long, and almost half the price of Dakars anyway. I really did not want to go up to a 2 1/2 to 3 inch lift because of UCA's and potential alignment and drivetrain wear issues. When Elwood had his 884x springs on, he got about 2 1/8 - 2 1/4 inches of lift....exactly what I was looking for...a little more than the 5100's at 1.75 and a little less than the 885x.

I want to keep my stock tires until they wear out and I'm going to bump up to 265/70 r17 Michelin MS2 tires...they look better with less wheel well showing IMHO. Plus I drive on the road only, so it is just for ride and looks...I'm tired of bottoming out over little bumps.

I have the topper and roof rack plus a bed platform in the back, so I figure that I'm going to sag 3/4 to 1 inch in the back, so I will keep the factory rake...I like that look in a truck.

We'll see...I can always upgrade to the 885x springs in the future if I want more lift.

Understandable. Most people with the AC or DC get the 885s for the extra weight. If you had the RC then I could see getting the 884.

Awesome! I just looked up the tracking number on mine and it will arrive next Thursday...just in time for Spring Break...I hope to have time to install them then.

Wheeler's was great to deal with...I didn't actually speak with Johnny or Dan on the phone but through PM's and emails. They really helped me out a lot when making my decisions...they really know their stuff. I ordered the kit around 2:30PM EDT and it shipped out the same day. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again!

 

If I hit another deer, I have already planned on getting an ARB bumper and 885x springs. The factory bumper cover and everything to install it was almost as much money as an ARB. Crazy...wish I had thought it through more the first time...hindsight is 20/20!

 

I just ordered an OME kit today it's delivery date is 3/28 according to the tracking number looking forward to having no more tire rubbing going on!!!

 

I installed everything today. Things went pretty smoothly...I took my time...beautiful weather...60 degrees and sunny. It was dark by the time I finished up, so I'll post pics and measurements early this week.

I took a quick drive...no vibes so far up to 60mph. Rides awesome!

Long time lurker, first time poster. I just wanted to let you all know that I really appreciate the time and dedication you put into these posts. They are very informative and provide readers with enough information to completely go ape on their modifications!

My thanks to the OP, John, for posting this information up here. This was one of the few 884/Dakar posts I have found on the innerwebs. In fact, this is the exact thread I am referencing for my own setup, which should happen in the next month. After conducting a million searches on these forums, this is the one. Hopefully I'm not stepping on your toes, John. Don't mean to hijack the thread, but wanted to also add my information to help others out there decide if an 884/Dakar is good for the DC.

Anyway, here is a picture of my current setup. I have the TSB AAL, which is sagging beyond belief. It's really pathetic, as evidenced by my recent trip to the Great Sand Dunes area. I had driveline vibes like crazy and my poor lab was in the back suffering through the entire trip.

I will provide a similar update on the install and the same setup as the OP, unless you feel like I should create my own OME 884/Dakar thread. I figured this would allow others to come to one place for the same information.

much thanks to the op for the inspiration to do this suspension upgrade. here are a few notes:

- 884 and dakar pack gave me about 2.5" in the first week. did the ome/dakar upgrade not quite 2 weeks ago. will measure again in a few weeks.

- started out with 20 1/4" (hub to fender) in front and 22" in the rear. this is with the TSB AAL. ended up with 22 1/2" in front and 23 5/8" in the rear. still have a slight rake, which i like.

- didn't want to upgrade the ucas, since i've heard most people didn't have trouble with 2.5" lifts and alignment. word of advice - upgrade the ucas.
-- post alignment specs: toe .02/.02, caster 1.42/1.27, camber .55/.53
-- although these are in tacoma specs, they are not ideal.
-- i need a caster of 2 (for better tracking) and camber of 0 for even tire wear.
-- with a camber of .55, the positive camber is obvious from the front. tire wear as well.
-- ordered icon tubular ucas, will put them on wednesday, and will have to get another alignment.

- the ride...fantastic. it was a night/day difference after putting on the ome 884 and dakar pack. the truck actually rode smoother than stock (minus the vibes, which i'll address later). bumps disappeared and the tires actually ride over obstacles, instead of hopping over them and then bottoming out. it's a noticeable difference, especially on the trails. i did some light wheeling to try and settle them in some more. it was a joy to ride on some new suspension - i don't know how i ever did it with my stock setup.

- vibes. judging from all the chatter about vibes on late model tacos, i can probably say that i'm experiencing the expected shudders and vibes from changing the dynamics of the ride. i get a slight shudder on takeoff, between 3-5mph. the next set of slight vibes comes around 16-20 mph, then disappear completely up to 90mph. these are vibes i can live with. i do feel tire vibrations coming from the alignment issue mentioned above. with such a positive camber (even in specs), the stock ucas don't allow for any more adjustment. the lcas are pushed out at the max - the only thing keeping me from zeroing out the alignment are the stock ucas. with a lift, you can make some sacrifices. lower your caster and you can probably get some camber adjustment. this shop wanted to increase caster as much as they could and sacrifice camber and still keep it within specs. with aftermarket ucas, you have more room to adjust. i wish i would have gone with the ucas in the first place. now i've done an extra alignment instead of spending that extra money on other additions to the truck.

- here are pictures of the before/after. looks just as awesome as the op's truck, even with stock tires. this is my dd, and i do some light wheeling. i got a dbl cab for my gear and family, including dog in the camper. i'll wear these tires out and will end up with one size larger in the bfg ats.

i had to horizontally flip the before picture to match the after picture.


you can see pooch in the camper. notice the slight rake. actually looks fine with the stock sized tires (michelin ltx2).
