This is the problem... w/o seeing the template, there's not a whole lot of advice we can give you other than "don't use that template" lol.

I'm not an Office guru either. I hate the software, and try to avoid it at all costs :D.

Don't worry - there is no switching to Hyper-V gonna happen anytime soon. I work for a fortune 50 company, so it's huge. But I'm sure there's a pilot or evaluation somewhere in-house. There always is. I'm on the coding side of the fence, which is why I was asking. I never have to deal w/the servers other than accessing them. Hyper-V is the most I've done with VM technology, but that's been for my own use at home. Any install that's small is simple, of course. I've done some cool things with it, like firing up a VM in the middle of the night to do off-site backup, then putting it back to sleep in the AM. I have about 6 VM's total but only 2 typically run at the same time. So it's suited me well. But my ways of running it don't work for the enterprise. Which is why I was curious about how VMWare does the job. Good info. Thanks!

Yep. I just need to make a new template then hu? I can do that no problem. Just sucks the guy who sent it to me might have set me up when I first started there because we do the same job. I have over a million dollars of quotes that are now blank. Thank got I print a paper copy out and have all my e-mails with the pdf's in them. Still sucks having to re-type them all if I need to revise stuff, but better then nothing.

    Thanks "K" ;)

heh, they aren't being aggressive about it, more that we joke about it whenever it screws things up (company uses/supports Androids). Most of my problems I cause are Outlook related.

Seems like a shitty thing to do.

Have you tried any of the office document recovery tools? Just in the off chance you have a "correctly saved" copy someplace.

Oh... Yea my company is the exact opposite. They require BB or iPhone, and are literally afraid of Android.

    Stupid.

Makes a lot of stuff (like policy enforcement) easier. But, it's definitely not the only way anymore.

Policy enforcement? The iPhone has none, it's all provided thru the app - in our case we use "GOOD for Enterprise". The exact same app is available for Android, providing the exact same functionality - remote wipe, encryption etc.

The nice thing about having it all in an app is if they do decide to remote wipe the device for whatever reason, it only blows up the app and not the whole phone. Now if they would only approve Android, I could sell this blasted iPhone.

So your exchange server sits outside the firewall then?

Correct. Which is why organizations have been slow to adopt iphone/android into their environments.

If you can contain your data within the app, that's great. But what happens when folks decide to use their contact database instead of the app?

I don't see what the big deal is with droid phones not being approved if they're allowing iphones. Unless of course, the company supplies them via a corporate plan and they're waiting on that.

The contact lists don't mix. Of course people can put contact info for work people on their phones - but anyone can do that, whether it's connected to work or not.

My company isn't so concerned about contact information slipping out, but email or sensitive data in a doc/email.

Exactly, there's no reason to play favorites here - the app works the same regardless of the platform. I have a feeling some big wigs had iPhones, and managed to get it pushed thru. None of our older big wigs probably use/care about Android.

Nope. It's my phone, my service, in my name. They give me a stipend on my paycheck - I'm still responsible ultimately for the bill. I also had to buy the device, they only pay the monthly fee. They also don't pay all of it, just "a portion".

Yes there are pieces of exchange made to sit in the DMZ and handle Webaccess and devices connecting via active sync.

If they don't pay for the device but their app works on it, why should they care? Seems ridiculous when a policy says you have to use a particular app. Do they "qualify" apps then?

If you're running GFE, can you save data out of the app? From what I read, the answer seems to be no.
