Oh yea. Also, just got in from terrorizing one of the local golf courses. Gotta say, I still prefer electric over internal combustion. :burnrubber:

I've thought about putting a drift box on my SC10. I've got a good size garage with a concrete floor to mess around in.

MJB, you should try putting duct tape around the tires on your 4x4 SC. Might be the most fun thing ever.

Looks like I'm late to the party. But there is NEVER a situation where a heavier race anything (check that, Pinewood derby comes to mind) is an advantage, NEVER period. If you have, and want to run NI-MH thats fine, but you will be at a disavantage vs. fellow drivers running them, for two reasons, first, weight of course, second, li-pos batts may start out with a "tad" less voltage, (but that pesky extra weight is gonna make that a wash) then there is the fact that, the extra voltage is gonna be gone in a minute or so, then will continue to drop lap after lap, (and that extra weight is still there) so even a faster drain. Where as a li-po has a damn near linear discharge curve. Again, I understand the need to run them, but, there is zero advantage.

Alright, Im gonna try something that is always a pain in my ass, Post pics. A bud and I, pretty much "broke in" to a new track today and ran a couple batteries. Some members we know with a key was supposed to showed, but no dice. So we said fuck it, hopped the fence, and proceeded to have a pretty good time.

Thing is regarding weight, is that on light electric r/c, I've seen them flip easily on the track, just as an example, taking a turn, you dig out a rock with your front tire, next thing you know you are upside down, heck even taking a turn just from the side grip I've seen them flip, it'll be harder to flip it if its heavier (if the weight is low), I've actually seen that happen a lot, another thing is driving style, I usually like to take turns by drifting the rear end, I've found it easier to do this with heavier rather than lighter, I'm planning on setting it up to have weight transferred back for this purpose, should also help on straights, loosing traction up front wont be as much as an issue due to how I drive. Comparing to 1:1 as the other guy I don't think is fair, on 1:1 aerodynamics play an important role, you can have a light car, but have it get pushed down while gaining speed, not something that can be easily done on R/C.

BTW I may be wrong, but it works for other racers around here so is worth a shot

epa^^^ I think the problems you're encountering regarding "weight" can be fixed by running your shocks softer when your truck weighs less.

Or a better way to put that might be... The trucks you're seeing have problems are the ones that are running shocks that are too stiff and over-dampened.

DISCLAIMER: This is more or less me talking to myself and "figuring this out" as I go.

Or, If you just like running loose you should run harder compound tires with a less "sticky" tread design (on the back, anyway) and a sway bar if possible. (Running loose would probably be done easier with plenty of grip in the front, and low grip in the back, and a light battery) It's easier to spin the tires with less weight, no?

I understand what you're thinking with the heavier truck being "easier" to drive. Which, it is. Much like a showroom Corvette ZR1 is going to be "easier" to drive fast than the all out race GT CR6 Vette.

Physics just doesn't allow for a heavier vehicle to corner better. It just doesn't make sense.
It's all in the suspension tuning, man.

Definitely I agree 100% on your last statement, I'm having trouble explaining myself, for an example yes a car when you take a turn, you don't want it to loose grip or you'll end up going outside the track, so lighter works. I want heavier so that I loose traction when I want it to, for example a couple of feet before a 180 degree turn, I could force it to drift and when I reach the curve I'm pretty much already facing the other way..... , floor it, weight transfer back and I'm off, but if I wanted to actually take the curve without any kind of loss of traction, then yes lighter would help. Not sure if its clear?
