Get the 4x4. It is just a neccessity north of the 49th.
Saying that after being on this forum for a while, I kinda wish I lived down south where I could get away without the 4x4. The amount of cool, fast, desert 4x2 I have seen on this forum is ridiculous.

Get the truck that matches where you live is the best advice I can give

got a 2wd just because i came across a damn good deal on it. I drive only on street really, so 4wd wouldnt benefit me. no snow in louisiana. i like my truck clean so i dont go off road.

    2wd ftw

Edit: oh for the snow. Shreveport is way north. Look at my sig. New Orleans. It snowed here for 1 day twice in my 21 years on Earth. No 4WD here. That shit melted as soon as it hit the ground :(

Fog lights, back-up camera, TRD cat-back exhaust, towing package, int. wiper stalk, Weathertech floor liners, color-matched the front bumper and grille, TSB leaf packs, Front Bilstein 5100's at 0", Eibach/Toytec coils (approx 1.25" front lift - sits almost level), rear Bilstein 5100's.
4x4 since you are in Canada. I live in MN, which is close enough, and I've been glad the majority of winters that I've had it. True, this year was nothing, but the winter before was a beast, and I was using the 4wd a couple times a week well into April.

Plus, there's a certain amount of gratification to be had in being able to take the unplowed back roads home from work after a huge dumper. Meanwhile, everyone else crowds onto the "main roads" and ends up taking 3+ hours to get home.

I had a 2wd 1st gen when I first moved up here. Great, indestructible truck overall but terrible in even a little bit of snow and ice. At least if you go 2nd gen 2wd, I feel the VSC and ABS work really well. I've only shut the VSC off a couple of times while in 2WD mode, and my experience with the ABS on ice has been great. :crapstorm:

I went for 4x4. I had nothing but front drive (except for the one subaru 4wd) for the past 20+ years. I didn't want to go slip sliding away with a rear wheel drive or worry about getting snow tires.

Glad I went with 4x4, did get more aggressive AT tires for year round use. Feel safer, more capable, and looks good. MPG is tradeoff, but what in life isn't

I agree, and that is why I put Alberta in my post as I realize it may be different elsewhere.

We don't get Prerunner here in Canada, unless someone imports one from US. :canada:

4X4 since you live in Canada. I got a 4X2 since I live near Las Vegas and don't go off-roading so I really couldn't justify spending the extra $$. However, whenI lived in PA where we got snow I had a 4X4. If you don't get it you'll regret it.

For those times you are driving home and you find yourself thinking... "where the **** did the road go?"...

    Use protection, use 4x4.

Don't stick your mouth where you won't stick your penis.

Don't have a 2wd truck and get stuck because you'll be f**ked lol.

If getting 2wd over 4wd is the biggest mistake of your life, you're very, very lucky.

Most of the opinions here are going to be very subjective. Is gas mileage most important or having 4x4 for a few months out of the year? You said you will mostly be commuting and not offroading, ever consider a 5 Lugger? Mine does fine in the snow with about 350 lbs of sandbags and traction control. i don't miss my old 4x4 in the least. just my opinion man.
