my friend has a 01 tacoma and he just got the letter in the mail saying that they are doing the frame rust recall for the 01-04 models. for people without rust will get an undercoating and those with rust will get the same buyback as the 95-00.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I believe they are replacing some of the frames.

I just got it as well. But it say's its for only certain states. Places were they have lots of snow and salt there roads. Mine doesnt apply so I cant do anything right now.

The place where you need to be checking is in the area where the frames are boxed, just ahead of the forward leaf spring mounts. The area in the driver's side is sort of hidden from view by the gas tank. I nearly bought a '97 a couple years ago in PA that looked like the frame was solid, but when I felt around and felt some flaking, I grasped the frame and literally crushed in the side of it with my bare hand.

Were you refering to my post? If so its says its for 2001-2004 tacomas.
If it's for the 95.5-2000 just thought it might help with the states it occurs in.

oh they sure are. and replacing frames on many of them as well.

you don't need a letter. I never reiceved a letter and had my frame replaced in CALIFORNIA (not exactly a high risk state)

No letter needed...check out the sticky at the top of the page for a lot of information.

Hey Now! You're right... no letter required. I called the local dealership today and I scheduled an appointment for an inspection this Thursday. Apparently, these guys try to fail the frames and have already replaced six along with other components directly affected by rust. Time will tell.
