ECT sensor???

the wiring going to the ect sensor by the timing cover is only getting showing .22 volts when the fsm says it should be getting 5v what do i do now???

was having high idle issues and when i pushed in the clutch going at higher speeds the idle would bounce from 1000-1600 rpms and keep bouncing until i was almost at a dead stop. iv tested and cleaned TB,IAC,MAF,ECT sensor,TPS and everything has checked out kept for the voltage going to the ECT sensor

 

come on someones gotta have a clue??

 

or maybe someone could test their engine coolant temp sensor so i can compare numbers
its the sensor by the timing cover right next to the coolant hose on top of the intake manifold turn the key on but don't start the motor and unplug the sensor connector and test it for volts fsm says it should be bout 5v but I'm not getting that and wanna see what other trucks are getting for a reference signal any help would be great

 

no codes are being thrown, trucks just got a messed up high idle and while coasting at like say 50mph the rpms bounce from 1100-1500 or stick at 1600 its new everyday iv cleaned the iac like three times,TB is spotless, linkage is free,butterfly closes all the way,cleaned the MAF like 2 times with MAF cleaner i checked the ohms on the IAC,TPS,MAF,ECT sensor and checked their function and changed out the thermostat oh and pulled the EFI fuse bout ten times and disconnected the battery
kinda at a loss and no i have not checked the ecu for five volts at the pin yet or continuity of the wire from sensor to ecu but when i unplug the sensor the idle bogs a lil when cold when i unplug it when its warm nothing?? its showing .22 volts by the sensor

guess i need to get off my a$$ and check the ecu think by any chance you could humor me by checking to see if you got 5v at the act sensor

all this shit started happening after i cleaned the TB and MAF the first time

 

ur sayin ect as in electronic controlled throttle right? i arent there 3 wires in it? u sure ur in the right wires? and fyi our throttle body's do wear out... mileage?

 

no ECT as in (engine coolant temp) sensor the one that is for the ecu on the front/top of the motor and theres no way a worn TB would make my idle surge seeing as how the surging happens with the flap closed, its nothing mechanical thats causing it, its in a sensor somewhere getting a bad signal or something

truck is a 2000 TRD 3.4L with 157k and believe it or not the throttle body has very minimal ware on the butterfly and none on the throttle body housing it self. hard to believe but its true

 

ur lucky then like me! just quoted a guy a new tb yesterday at work. he didnt like that.... ok so the ect sensor has 2 wires. 5 volt reference, then the sensor changes that voltge dependent on temp and sends that voltage through the other wire correct?

 

yeah after it receives the signal based on voltage or what not it then goes to the ecu and in theory the ecu then tells the IAC how much to open.
the truck is thinking that its cold or not warmed up when it is and that would explain why my milage is shot 11-12mpg.
but back to my original question, could you by chance humor me and check the voltage on the 2 wire connector going to the ect sensor

 

i could but im not at work right now.... ur sayin you only have .22 v at thereference? find the corrosion, check atthe computer would be my first point of diag

 

yeah was more busy with my supra today never got a chance to check to ecu plus I'm trying to figure out what pin on the ecu is for the ECT sensor

 

All the sensors are 5 volt reference. How are you checking the wiring to ground or between the other pin? Check your temp sensor with an ohm meter they change with temperature. They are critical for the over all running and if it tells the ECU the engine is cold it will use more gas.

 

iv ohm checked 3 diff ect sensors that i have laying around and even tried the one outta my supra, they are all working good

to check for 5volt reference i unplug the harness right by the sensor and touched the multimeter to the two wires in the connector and then i used check by using a chassis ground instead of the connector ground and still .22 volts

I'm trying to find out what pins on the ecu that the two wires go to so i can check the ecu for voltage and also continuity of the wires going to the sensor,
Anyone know what pins???? 2000 tacoma 3.4L non-cali version

 

well then i guess I'm all good on that note seeing as that link stats the pin for my act sensor should be .2-1.0 volts and I'm showing .22volts so i guess ill move on to something else
but strangely the manual i have states it is a 5volt reference and any less is not suitable but the link you gave me states .2-1.0 volts wtf
