Yeah I noticed the locker is way snappier and yes it is pretty much for screwing around. haha

The other reason I did it is I have to write an 8 page instruction manual for my Professional and Technical writing class and he wants it to be related to our field. Wiring a relay into an ECU on a pickup is something an Electrical Engineer might do. Right? Haha Anyway it seemed easy enough and I took lots of pics

 

Dual battery set up is almost complete just need to crimp the wires and the sub box just needs the seams fiberglassed and it's done too!

 

Tell me about it...

Can i ask a newb question? What's the reasoning for a dual battery setup? I looked into it some for my car a while back, i have a couple 12's and four 6x9 that are ran by 2 amps. The conclusion i came to is that when the engine is running all a 2nd battery does is put more strain on the alternator.

 

I have a 1200w amp, 2 lightforce 240s, 4 lightforce 170s, and a winch that pulls 650A at full load. I'm running the winch and half of the lights off of the secondary deep cycle battery. The battery separator senses which battery is low not power and will automatically switch to charge that battery or both. I can also swatch it so that both batteries provide power at the same time.
My main reasoning is so that if i need to winch out it won't kill my battery and leave me stranded because of no juice and I can jumpstart myself.

 

Same issue. Finally got it all apart. Spindles removed (obviously) to take to the shop to have the old upper b/js pressed out.

Lisa, That part of the carpet is getting replaced by the sub box. Oops

 

Not nearly as much fun though.

Besides, yours is DD so your hand is kinda forced by that. I might have done the same if I relied on having only my truck to get around.

I figured it would be for the winch. Wasn't sure how many amps they pulled, but 670 is a lot more than our alternators can provide. What are our alternators rated?

My little hyundai accent has a 65 amp alt. And my 2 amps in there pull almost double that on full load. When the subs hit the alternator will whine sometimes, but its still going strong after about 6 years though

I have a 90A Alternator. but that's not the important part, what matters is the CCA or cold cranking amps. the yellow top has 750CCA with a 90min. reserve.
so I'll be able to use the winch and have everything else running at the same time without killing the battery or the amp.

 

It is highly unlikely that you will damage your shock from flexing it out. That is the most gentle of abuse. Now if you were going out to pull a 'james' or similar, it would be different.
