So, today there were 4 withdrawals from my bank account from some company called American Service.

There were 2 for $29.39 CDN and 2 for $65.42 CDN, a total of $152.86 USD.

I have no idea who this company is and what the random amounts are for. My bank needs me to sign some document tomorrow and i'll have my money back, but it still doesn't answer the question of how this happened.

A quick Google search and it looks like American Service is an insurance company, but i'm hoping some of you guys know who it is.

    Thanks!

    stock, for now
sounds like a scam. they get ahold of your bank account # and take small amounts to see if the number is active. then when they confirm it is, they take all your money.

That's really weird that its your bank account......

Contact your bank immediately. You'll need to totally delete your current account (and numbers) and start a new one.

I've never had this happen on a bank account, but had several credit cards get hacked into.

Do you use a bank card to buy things? If YES .... I'd highly recommend using a credit card instead. My husband and I use our credit card everywhere. I'd rather have someone hack into my credit card accounts than my bank accounts. My credit card (Citibank) actually contacts me when there is 'suspicious' events that occur. In 99% of the times, they are absolutely right! And other situations I'll call them and request a card number change for security reasons. I feel better protected using my cards....
Access to bank account information is really really bad!!

Great point. Unfortunatley in this day & age, NOBODY is 100% secure/safe. It's really frustrating.

Follow up w/ your bank ASAP. Then report it to any & every fraud division you can think of.

    GAWD!

Just figured it out. A new Gold's Gym was being built last year and my girlfriend and i both signed up for memberships and training...it took forever to open (7 months late) and they started billing yesterday. I'm guessing for tax reasons, they're using a US holding company for billing. What a pain in the ass!

Good advice. I have had my bank call me on suspicious activity before. But it's better to have a fraud against a credit card. If it's fraudulent on your credit card, they just reverse the payment. If it's on your bank card, you may get it reversed but you're out the money in the meantime.
