Potential buyer with questions

Hi Everyone,

I'm seriously looking at getting a '12 Tacoma, double cab, V6, etc. I am leaning toward the Sport model and the dealer has a few Off Road versions. My driving habits don't include off roading all that much, simply getting around in the Colorado snow, some off roading to get to remote locations such as hiking, etc. I've not test driven with version, but wanted to get some feed back from you all on recommendations on the two models I've mentioned and anything else a new buyer should be aware of...what to get, "must haves," etc.

I got ride of my Honda Ridgeline about a year ago and picked up a Honda Civic for the gas mileage, but found I really miss my truck utility. I'm back to considering a mid-size 4WD and leaning toward Toyota, but am also looking at Nissan. Honda, no...loved the truck in many ways, but it had its drawbacks.

If you want it more for looks get the sport, if you want to off road more and want the locker get the trd off road

 

If you're not going to do any hard-core offroading, you don't need the locker. However, If you plan on hauling/towing a boat (boat ramps) - you might want the locker.

The SPORT looks better with the colored matched bumpers, etc.

Take a drive in both and see how they feel to you. I believe the Sport & Offroad might be slightly different in suspension and seating - although, might not be enough to notice for your style of driving.

Other than that....choose base on price & what you like.

 

TRD Off Road has more aggressive tires than the Sport and may ride a lil bit stiffer, although I think mine rides pretty smooth. Also if your wanting a long bed u have to get the Sport, it's not available in the Off Road. The Sport also has turn signals built in the outside mirrors

 

I trailer a boat almost every weekend, 5 months of the year. I have an SR5 with the Limited Slip Diff. Never had any slippage on any ramp. Never had a need for the locker.

I have an 07 Sport DCLB. I wanted the long box to haul tools, material and bikes. From what I gather the Sport's suspension is tuned differently then the OR model. You can always upgrade the stock Billies to 5100s to make it a little more firm. I agree with Janster, the Sport does look better with the colour matched bumpers, door handles and side view mirrors.

The Sport also has the new mirrors with the integrated turn signals, that's about a $400 mod to do on the Off Road. Wish I had them on my OR.

Thanks folks. I am picking up a Spruce TRD double-cab tomorrow afternoon. The dealer went above and beyond customer service. He drove the truck over and let me have it overnight and the following day. I'll post photos when I can. I love the color not to mention the truck itself. Hands down better than my Ridgeline!!!

 

Absolutely.......Ridgeline a "truck" that is front wheel drive with no solid rear axle
