Help truck has been sitting for two months with big problems when startin up

I left my tacoma sitting in a parking garage for two months under a roof here in south florida with a little more than a quater tank of gas and has 72,000 miles on it. came to start it up yesterday and started up but then wanted to die on me. it started shaking really bad and engine light was flashing. was able to drive it somewhat but when i pressed the gas it seemed like it wasnt getting enough fuel to the sylanoids or somthing and could only get up to 15 mph with the gas peddle all the way to the floor. it would continue to shake really badly. Also the brake peddle was really tight and wouldnt go all the way down, limiting my braking ability. any help???? has this happned to anyone before???????????

 

Sounds like you need some fuel treatment. Gas goes bad.

Battery could probably use a charge. Really a new battery would be better.

 

fuel goes bad over time. try fuel treatment. you also probably have air in your fuel lines which is why it starts like crap and runs like crap. its been sitting for two months, dont try to mash the throttle or your gonna end up damaging something. ease her back into driving again

 

mine has been sitting for 6 months and had all the same problems. just let it idle for about 15-20 minutes and then drive it like a grandma for a week or two and you should be good. get fresh fuel and an oil change as well. oil also breaks down over time

 

fuel treatment sound like the plan but what would be the problem with the front wheel brakes not working well chaned em about 5 months ago?

 

all your fluids (including brakes) have not moved for 2 months. you very well could have air in the system so maybe try bleeding your brakes also. if thats not the problem, brake pads can become useless over time if they are not used, but i dont see that happening because it was only 2 months

turns out 2 of the cylander arnot getting enough air compresion and are not firing normaly one works at about 70% and the other at 2%, this may because of a spring loose or a broken off piece. not sure yet. the cost for labor is outrageous I expected them to pull this shit..but could this all be caused from me running it with the bad gas and it firing incorrectly? I onlly ran it 2 miles from where i started it up to the shop.

 

Do a Leakdown Test. It will tell you where the compression is leaking. A tester will cost $40, but you need to have an air compressor to use it.
Sounds to me like a broken compression ring. The oil on the cylinder walls is gone and the rings seized. Only a teardown or leakdown test will tell you for sure, I can only guess.

 

Turns out the person i bought the truck from 2 years ago didnt change his oil as often as he should have...with that said I went ahead and opened up the engine to get to the cylinder valves and it was just caked up sludge all in the top of my engine and sure it was all in the bottom as well. Now I have changed my oil and babied this truck since i got it and have never had any problems with it. I let it sit for this two months and all the sludge that was in it just caked up on the inside and settled in the bottom and in the valves i assume, causing everything to sieze up on me. In the process now of dropping a rebuilt engine in from toyota. but got some new bf goodrich all terrains out of the deal so thats a good outcome i guess. When i bought the truck i had serice records but a few of them were missing but she ran great. Is there anyway over all this time after i bought the truck that the slude that was in there just sat without any problems, and when i let my truck sit for two months it all just caked up and molded together, i mean i was damn surprised to see that much shit in my engine without me every having any problems up till now.

Please let me know your opinion.

 

Sludge normally causes bigger problems than that. It either plugs the returns and starves the cams for oil, or blows the valve cover off. Never heard of it stopping the valves, but I guess it's possible.

Glad you found out the problem, Sean. Sorry that the previous owner neglected it and now you have to be the one to suffer because of it. But at least you know now that it's going to be CLEAN in there.

 

2 months are not really that long for things to go bad that seriously. It was probably bound to happen anyway, unfortunately. Sitting for 2 months probably dried out the sleeve walls etc. just enough to make something stick and break - the proverbial last straw that broke the camel's back.
At least now you are getting a "new" engine that will last you for a very long time if you take care of it. I think you will be surprised at the power you have compared to the old one, based on the description of what it looked like.
