Weird, cool stuff you found in the woods.

OK, my find was in an industrial area, not exactly the woods. Well, there is some brush out in back of the warehouse, so that's kind of the woods. Anyway, two days ago I was enjoying some of the nice weather we had in Chicago this week, and I took a stroll around the back of our warehouse, and I found this:



That's right, a steel beer can. Looks like new. And as some of you may know, beer can collecting was big in the '70s, and I was into it like every other kid I knew. I actually have one or two of these in my old collection. So, if you were into collecting these, you know that they were made, on and off, between '68 and '82. And I'm not sure if the later ones were still steel or aluminum. You can see a (partial?) price tag on top for .39 but I don't know if it is the complete tag, for a single can or six pack, or what. Whatever, it is at least 30 years old, and sitting there exposed to the elements in back of a warehouse near Chicago. WTF??

 

Its all that LEAD paint that kept it pristine.

One of the coolest thing, or places I've found, was what looked to be an old farm site somewhere in the mountains west of Fort Collins, CO. I keep planning to do some ghost town exploration during the summer. I'll have to post anything cool I find.

 

I plan on truckin it out here to Tucson when I have a place to park it. I can't wait to start tearing it apart and rebuilding it. I know exactly what I want to do to it, and the best part is, its going to be cheap.

 

When I was in college my geology class went on a field trip to an outcrop of an old prehistoric beach near Camargo Mexico. I was climbing a hill and began sliding down. As I was sliding I grabbed the first thing I could to slow myself down. I pulled out this fossilized oyster shell from the gound. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to keep it, but it was so cool I couldn't put it back...

My dad found an iphone 3g in an otter box while hunting one day. It had a cracked screen and wouldn't work so i couldn't find out whos it was. So i ordered a replacement kit, fixed the broke screen, and sold it on craigslist for $160. FTW!

 

Oh man, how did I not see this thread? Don't have digital pics handy, but the coolest was a WWII R-2800 radial engine from a Corsair crash hidden in a dry creek. Also found an old Model T truck carcass that had been used as a power source at an old Sierra mine.

Found this while exploring ambergis caye, belize about six miles from town south. I drove a golf cart down there it had a 6 in lift and mud tires. I was reminded at the time of rental by the owner "please remember its not 4 wheel drive..."

 

I found to turtles bonking shells...

 

I was walking in the woods behind our shop on the farm and came across a large plastic tote full of water with a tray of atleast 100 baby pot plants I got pics but I don't want to be the one the gets this tread locked haha

 

at most, it would get removed by the mods (if chris did it, he'd replace it with a unicorn since that is his favorite animal creature) and you'd get the banhammer.

 

If you go to the top of Daniel Trail in Uwharrie (URE) National Forest there is a camp site. Walk straight back from the trail through the center of the camp sight directly into the woods about 300 yards and there is a massive pile of stones which form a large cross. Not sure the significance of it I've heard it was something built by Indians but it definitely took a while.
