OK. I'm glad you checked that. I was just getting ready to ask if someone would check their '06+ Taco. I tlaked with Marlin today and said that they all have to plug. Thats good. You should have the worm gear on the inside as well.

The gear oil you see is just from when I took the plug out. It's dry as a bone now.

I have your '06 schematic. I'll take pictures of them to let you know where you need to tap into.

I'm not sure what it will do to your abs. Probably nothing since your going to take the red yellow out of the abs system all together. Your shift points in your tranny should have no ill effect at all since it gets it's info from the back of your speedo anyway.

As far as knowing what size gear I needed? The 33 tooth gear works for stock larger tires, 32"s and larger. But it also depneds on what gearing you have as well in the rear diff. I have 40" tires and 5.38 gears in the diff. I Knew the 32 tooth gears wold be too much so I just tried the 30 tooth gear and it worked.

With this sytem, your ajuster will work fine now since it's trying to accomodate a four plus signal instead of the Hall's Effect system from the rear sonsors.

I'm not sure which gear will work for you. You will still likely need some kind of adjuster to fine tune it.

Let me know if I can be of any help, and thanks for the picture. That really helps.

Oh yeah. If you take that plug out you will loose a little bit of oil. About enough to cover the bottom of a small paper coffee cup. Nothing to worry about, but if your not expecting it, it will startle you.

There is a thread on pirate with the Toyota part numbers for each speed sensor gear and recommendation on what works with what size tire. To me it was easier to do the Dakota Digital box as I was sooooo far off that it did not make sense to swap gears.

Sol!!!!! Glad you came on here. Again, thanks for all of your help. Ima sooo happy.

    Thank you very much.

I got lucky with the gears I got from folks. The 30 tooth gear worked perfect. I will probably get the Dakota Digital box to get t dead on though.

I talked with Marlin yesteday and he has found that Toyota is using this worm gear as a spacer in the t/c so it is there from what he knows now, in all of the Taco's all the way up to the '09's.
And that means the plug should be there as well.

If you have an '06 or up 4x4 Taco, could you look on the rear passenger side of your Transfercase and see if this plug is there. If it is would you please let me know what year and what type of Taco you have.
I would be greatful for your help.

I'd be very surprised if the Dakota Universal Speedo Calibration unit (SGI-5) did not work on your truck. It's not a plug and play device and requires some wiring, but it's made to recalibrate speed signals in a number of ranges. IIRC the FJC uses a 16k PPM signal and Dakotal works between 4K and 256K PPM. I suspect that your truck is the same as my FJC, but I could be wrong. Good luck with finding a solution.

Thanks. Yes, the six speeds have a different transfercase than the atuto's do so you'll have the sensor already. I f you look close to this picture you can see that there is a VSS on the manual tranny trucks.
You can see that the wires coming from the VSS has an M/T next to them. That stands for manual transmission.

I'd like to see some one with an '09 auto tranny.

Thats what I wanted to see! So all the new Taco's with the auto tranny have the plug.

That plug is where a vehicle speed sensor goes. instead of picking up speed at the rear tires, we can get the speed from the back of the transfercase and bypass the rear sensors if you want to upgrade your rear axle and not worry about ABS.

    So cool.

This is what mine looked like

    Before the VSS swap
    [IMG]

    and after the VSS swap

Yep! Looks like they all have them. Now if someone wants to change their rear axle or just pick up speed at the transfer case to get a better signal for larger tires to recalibrate, it looks like it can be done.

Going over the gate keeper at Calico on Doran Falls. The 4.7's gears in my Marlin Crawler "Taco Box" made all the difference in the world.

This early Toy pick up is built with dual ultimate crawler box's and sits on 40" tires and didn't make it up. In fact he broke and this is an awesome little truck. Thats me coming up behind him in the picture.
