ABS and traction indicator

Hey guys, over the last so days or so my ABS light and that traction control sliding truck icon have been turning on. Does anyone know what this means? Is this my indicator that it's time for new brakes or does this mean something bad? This is for a 2009 tacoma TRD offroad 4x4.

Its weird... mine did that a couple of days ago. I parked, turned off the ignition and started it again. The lights went out. I have noticed that I am hearing a little more of a whine when I am taking off from a stop while everything is cold.

 

Yeah. It's weird. My left front turn signal went out too. Doubt it's related but weird anyway.

 

Do you use the ultragauge by chance? I just read someone elses post where they were using one and had the same problem. I use one and I am sure that is what cause my problem. The whine... I maybe just haven't noticed it before.

 

I am not using an ultra gauge.

 

I have the exact same issue. Started about a month ago. Initially the lights came on sometimes, but other times the lights would be off. Now they both are on all the time. I dont have ABS or Traction control when the lights are on, so the systems are definitely linked together and definitely not working when the lights are on. Before I go to the dealer and spend big $, Im wondering if anyone has found the solution... sensor, wires unhooked, etc??? Any help would be appreciated.

 

My abs light was coming on sometimes but would go away when the ignition was cycled. Now it comes on everytime i turn on the truck and pulled code c1249: open in stop light switch circuit. My truck is a 2006 with 2010 tail lights.

 

Do you think the code you pulled is related to your ABS and traction systems or your 2010 tail lights??? Mine is definitely related to the ABS and traction systems...

 

Might be a connector is loose somewhere just check your abs wire that's what happened to me the abs light would come on every time I hit a bump and loosening the connector

It appears to be thinking that this is no brake available. I have to step on my brake really hard sometimes to make the lights go out to get the truck into Drive. I have taken it in to a shop and they cant tell me whats up.

Sounds like an issue with the stop light switch, possibly just adjustment if stepping hard on the pedal allows you to shift from park.

 

Mine turned out to be a damaged wire on one of the front wheel sensors. It appears a rock or stick probably crushed the wire. After replacing the sensor (sensor and wire coming out is one piece), all is fine. Beware the sensors are very expensive $$$$$.
