The OP was asked several times why not get and X runner.
    Now I know why.
This thread is part of my research, is that OK?

I believe, that the confusion stems , partially, from.your second sentence RickW. It just doesn't make much sense.

I believe the X runner came w/6sp man trans. I didn't like it.

Me like. Very unique bro! I am not surprised you went that route, I knew the change was coming when you changed your rims and put that SC on, I'm pretty sure your the only one running around Bragg with that kind of a set up. I always remember seeing your truck in the battalion and it was one of the reasons why I got the DC1's. Lol

How is with the 29ish tires? Does it seem like it needs a regear? What are the rpms at 70 mph? Truck looks great btw, makes me want to change my wheels.

Old thread, but your truck is really nice. I was thinking of doing something similar with my 09 AC Off-Road.

Nice ride. I've been contemplating doing this as well. Mainly for gas but it looks really good.

CalTracs, Bud Built traction bar, or the other brand which some 4x4 guys run, will eliminate the wheel hop issue.

I joined just to thank the OP for posting this.

I looked and looked before giving up on Tacomas for this issue. Having seen other brands lowered some, I figured it was available but bashing kept people from posting where I could find a kit.

To those who bashed... if you are that serious about offroading I hate to tell you the Tacoma is a TRUCK and you should probably move up from the bottom of the offroad totem pole.

A lifted truck is worthless for truck useage, crappy on curvy roads around here and still not very good offroad. My lifted chevy with big tires pos rear front locker and actually enough hp for the big tires did ok. But the lift and big tires didn't help for anything other than mudding and straight crossing things. Stupidity 4 wheeling basically. Otherwise it was probably less capable than a stock Samurai or Sportage.

To me 4x4 for a truck is just a common sense necessity not an offroading thing. 4x4 so you don't get stuck in the grass lol, or at the boat dock or trying to back up somewhere or get up a gravel drive.

Also, I have to assume you never use your truck as a truck? You guys should really try a jeep or suv if you want to offroad and don't haul.

Anyways, to the original poster I really appreciate it. I for one can again consider a Tacoma vs a Colorado Ranger Frontier etc 4x4. See I actually use a truck to haul, in/out work, and probably use 4x4 a few times a week due to living in a mountainous area.

I need a truck bed and 4x4. But I also need to be able to reach over the bed to put things in or take things out. I'm 6' tall and a 4x4 tacoma sits too tall to be practical. I would need to lower it for work purposes. So thanks.

On the springs which came with the 4x4 from '05 to '08 prior to the TSB, they had terrible axle wrap. Which became more problematic when lowered.

I first noticed tbis difference when I help my friend with his Tundra Racing kit on his '09. He never installed traction bars and never had the hopping, oscillating axle wrap problem.

When I finally swapped XR (from an '08) leaf springs on my '06 4x4, back in July, the axle wrap was nearly completely non existent. I was even able to race without the need to have the traction bars installed. Huge difference in driveability and handling.

I actually just installed the traction bars yesterday, for the sake of getting it back together.

This looks good. I don't do any extreme off roading, but i got the 4x4 for snow days, mountain trips or some unpaved roads in the forest so lowering it could work for me look wise and still have functionality.

Question though is do you lose any weight capacity in the bed? I have on several occasions had 1200-1330 pounds of stuff in the bed so I cannot lose that functionality

Still same leaf springs. Capacity doesn't change. Just travel. Add in some adjustable QA1's and turn them up with heavy loads. Works great.

Thanks. I thought so, but trucks are new to me in general so I wanted to make sure. I will have to think on this. I like the idea, but I think it would take away some of the "truck" feel for me.
