Here's what I have going I'm real happy with it. My last truck had a full blown structure down to the bedrail, and I could carry a shit load with that, but rarely needed to. Most of the work I do is finish. This new rack is built by Kargo Master just as my last rack was. I had a welder buddy of my brew up little cleats to make tying down the load fast, easy, and secure. The Canopy is a SnugTop Rebel with extra build up to the roof area composite. I liked the SnugTop Rebel because the side windoors come pretty large in comparison to other models, and makes. I've been growing pretty confident in the strength of the canopy/rack, but I'm sure anything to risky will just be adding wear, and tear. I've been able to carry loads like 16 16' 2x12, but that's where the pucker zone begins. The rack is 9 foot front to back give, or take, and if I lash stuff like 20' 1x6 together I can get it setting pretty solid up there. The one thing that bums me out once in a bluemoon is the wind noise, I've been think of brewing up some kind of wind deflector like those Thule deals that mount in the front.

so that rack sits on the caps's racks huh. nice setup, that colors sharp too with the cap
does kargo master make that specif. for caps or did you hack the legs off a full rack
also, with your last setup, what rack did you have that went to the bed rails
im guessin tracrack cause i havent found any other racks(besides thule, not for me)
that are compatible with the bed rail.
it might be its own thread somewhere but wtf is going on there

The rack is made specific for canopy mounts, and the canopy is reinforced for a similar Snugtop made rack with a over cab extension. There wasn't any kind of specific Snugtop mount on the Canopy just composite reinforcement.

I liked the looks of the Kargo Master rack, and had a conventional Kargo Master rack before. A local canopy vendor had access to both so I figured I'd get what looked like a pretty nice setup.

This pic kinda shows how it's mounted, just threw bolts threw a steel plate under each exterior bracket. The roof is pretty stout, I can load it up put wait on it, and see no deflection under the pads, but I'm sure there are other parts of the canopy that aren't in the mood to be hauling several hundred pounds of weight.

    Sub'd for some good ideas......

I use my truck everyday for work, I'm a roofer so always carrying ladders, tools and heavy material

Trying to sell my tonneau cover and softtopper at the moment to get a shell with some racks.

My current method of hauling involves a blanket on the roof :D Usually drive 120+ miles per day like this and have never had an issue but I'm looking forward to a canopy with racks so it doesn't look so ghetto, plus I can sign write the canopy!

I have some all-pro expedition springs in my garage to go in to help with the heavy loads

Some times having a short box isn't enough... with a canopy I should be able to fit a lot more

    * Please note I didn't actually drive like this on a road, just to the next condo :D

i have a decent size length of angle iron that i'm eventually gonna bolt to the side bedrails and eliminate them altogether. i noticed someone in that thread did it and welded that crazy bar to it, thats freakin awesome.if i had any welding skillz id try it cause thats ultimately what id like to end up with, the unlimited configuration possibilities of the bedrail, just 10 or 20 times stronger. i ratchet the hell out of those bedrail cleats,i dont even know how they've survived.
thanks for that link oz, i think i just spent another 2grand in my head
