Mostly miscellaneous electronic mods.... -2 spare Electrical fuse blocks hard wired to the battery with a key on relay. -Hard Wired Radar detector over rearview mirror. -2 Dual Whelen Avenger blue LED emergency lights, one on each side of the rearview mirror. -EP911 Blue LED Light Bar & Traffic Advisor, Rear Windows. -4 corner amber strobes in stock lights. -Hardwired RF Scanner with external speaker under center console. -Huskyliner front splash guards -Fireband 2 way radio in center console. -Herculiner painted on hitch and skid plate. -Switch to power one 12v socket when truck is off. -AntiDark LED strip under hood with switch. -Timbren Rubber Springs - Rear -MBRP Offroad Cat-Back with Resonator -Duratrac's -Provisor -Color matched hood bug shield

Although i haven't driven it much since the TSB was completed i was also feeling the "off balance" and some increased highway vibration. Anyone else have this problem? Is there any sort of front end lift to even the truck up with the rears?

Went to the dealer today I purchased from today with my usual two sandbags in the back (helps in typical MN winters), PLUS my typical summer weeked trip purchases from the local home improvement center (3-40# bags of river rock, and 3-40# bags of pea gravel). I also run an ARE tonneau cover (may 100#?). Truck was nice & 'squishy' and ride was very compromised. ;)

I had called ahead and they knew of my "harsh ride" complaint, I shared that I was well aware of the TSB through the 2011's, and that the truck had bottomed out with TWO passengers a week or so ago (only had the lid and usual sandbags in back then). A truck as equipped as this shouldn't be having issues like this!

They first took it back to the service bay to "inspect it" and had me hang out in the waiting area. Then the service manager came to find me and said I had, "so much weight in the back end there's no wonder the ride wasn't good." I reminded him of the 1295# payload in the specs. He said, "there's nothing I can do--there isn't a piece I can just add in there." I replied, "yeah, there is something you could do--you could get 4 leaf spring packs installed on the truck like should have been there in the first place." Again he said, "there is nothing I can do without a TSB for the 2012's." I asked him to call corporate because we both knew it would only be a matter of time before the 2012 was on the TSB list and he agreed to call our local representative and committed to call me back early next week (I was thinking, yeah, right!).

I really didn't think I'd hear back from him so soon, let alone to hear what he actually told me. He just called me back and said I have a new set of springs on order, that I'll get a postcard in the mail when they come in and I should set up the appointment to get them installed when I receive it. Whoo-hooo!!! I thanked him profusely and told him he made my weekend.

Didn't think it was gonna happen, but I'm now another 2012 model owner getting the TSB springs on the way! I'll take some pictures to post before and after.

My advice--be up front--be knowledgeable about the TSB, be ready to stand your ground, and don't give up! It's a Toyota--it should have come this way in the first place like the Sport version did. Bottom line, whether the three leaf packs are part of a TSB or are considered a warranty issue on a faulty part--they should make the problem go away! Perhaps a reasonable "fix" Toyota might implement on the second half of this year's models would be to automatically install the four-pack on anything with the tow package. Wouldn't ya think that might make sense--if you ordered the tow package that means you're not a yuppie commuter and you really want to haul stuff?

Good luck everyone with a 2012!

i looked under my 2012 and i counted 4 (the 4th one was much shorter than the others). i bought my 2012 in october of last year in MN. is it possible that they're manufacturing tacomas in different configurations? why would you have 3 and i have 4... or am i counting wrong?

I spoke with the service mngr this week. The regional guy was due there Thursday, I was going to take my truck in so he could check out my complaint, after a troubling conversation with the service mngr.
He tried to sell me that they weren't aware of any issues with the rear springs? Offered to share numerous online references to it. Didn't sit well and I told him my '09 had the TSB done at their dealership! Then it was, we're not aware of issue with 2012"s. Advised same truck, same spring pack, same issue.
Thankfully he called back later and said bring it when you can, we'll verify there's a problem and work on a solution. Reiterated the solution is the 4 leaf pack, loved it after my other truck was "fixed".
I had no adverse effects; no rattles, no uneven posture, no vibration.

Hey guys I have an appointment tommorow to look at the rear leafs on my 4 cylinder its bottmed out twice on parts of parking lots where it dips down fast and goes back up when the back has been weighed down. Anything else I can see say besides it bottoms out and they squeek to get the TSB? Do I mention I know there is a TSB?

Yes. Mention that you are experiencing a "Harsh Ride" while loaded.

The forum threads on the 2012's regarding the leaf spring TSB, it appears the common denominator for 3 vs. 4 leafs in the pack (mind you, this is 2 leafs + overload or 3 leaf + overload) is having ordered also the Off Road package. Your profile states SR-5, where my truck is the TX Pro model which precludes I must also have the Off Road package. There are several forum threads on TW in which the 2012 model, and different configurations, is discussed. Perhaps they might give you insight on the SR5.

Keep us posted. I'd also like to know how much of a hassle it is to get the dealer to do the TSB on a 2012. Might try it when i take it in for the next free oil change.

i went in the Longo Toyota in El Monte CA this morning ("#1 toyota dealer in the country") for the first 1000 miles check up.. so while i was there decide to let the service manager about my Harsh ride while loaded.. he put a surprised face "as if he had never heard anything bout it" i explained how it saggs badly and bottoms out when loaded with less then payload.. he argued he knew nothing so i let him know that i was aware of a the rear leaf tsb.. he said ok let me check.. he checked and showed me that it applies for through 2011.. i said same truck same "unfixed problem" he said that he was gonna have some techs take a look at it when they were servicing my truck.. when he called me up to say my truck is ready, he said they cannot do anything because it does not apply to 2012 but that every thursday Toyota corp. representitives go to their dealer and that i should take it in so they see my truck and approve tsb be done or not on my truck... what do i do if they dont approve? stand my ground? or wait till theres a tsb for 12???

I picked up my truck and was told by service manager that my the leafs met Toyota's specs and I did not qualify for the TSB. He advised me to carry lighter loads its a 4 cylinder truck. Can I call Toyota customer service and complain?

I would tell him that the truck's payload is ~1300 lbs even for the 4 cyl. Show him in the fancy color brochure they have on hand. I've read on here of guys coming in loaded down, or get 5-6 service techs to stand in the bed.

If he doesn't budge, call Toyota. I'd raise hell based on his bullshit "advice" alone.

I'm definately gonna try for the TSB next time I go in. Keep us posted.
