after market backup camera install??

Is there a thread showing the installation of an after market backup camera?

it's too bad no one has done the install and put up a Sticky! If I order the parts and try it myself, I'll post one but it might be awhile.

Plus I have no experience with wiring!

I am not sure what you are looking for on the install. I ordered one of the license plate rear view camera's. Ran the wires through frame and secured with zip ties. Pushed wires through closest grommet/plug on drivers side to the dead pedal area.

There is thread on here that shows the reverse lights wire that is in the bundle near the dead peddle (use this wire for turn on lead to the receiver). Run wires up underneath dash to receiver, and you are done. I believe it was a total of 3 wires, 1 power, ground, and RCA.

how about recommendations on which backup camera / display (mirror or lcd). I've seen the Peak, Boyo, and a few others but I have no idea which one is a decent buy with the CCD (instead of CMOS).

also, I have no plans to put an aftermarket radio in.

 

how did you power the camera ? new wires or tap into something in the back ?

 

Not a 100% sure but I believe I used the reverse lights wire in the dead pedal area. Probably not the best answer (probably should have used relays..etc), but one that works.

 

ok so you connected both the head unit "reverse" lead and the camera to the same wire ?
i havent poked around under the truck since its been so crappy out this week. got all the stuff to do it just want to plan it out.

 

Boyo makes good cameras they actually make them for a lot of factory's like Honda and some Toyota I think Ive installed a few boyos and they have yet to disappoint me I just bought one for my accord

 

I have a 2012 - no rear view camera, but it appears to have been pre-wired for one (or so I thought). I assumed that this would be a good spot to connect an aftermarket - can separate the connector (same one that has to be disconnected to allow the tailgate to be removed) and connect the license plate camera I bought. However, upon testing, there is no power to the connector when put into reverse. Anybody else ever use this method? Any success.
