bone stock save for the block lift that came on it with the open country m/t.
went to lbs to look around. Took one for a spin, they are so much fun to ride, they go over anything. I would hate to get a flat out riding though.

What the hell do you use that for? That is really cool. :D

I'm gonna spam this thread once more. Finally bought a bike for my dad yesterday. He really needs the exercise. The budget was in the walmart type of bike price range so I'm happy I stereed him into buying something a bit better. New 2010 Giant Rincon for $299 from original $569.

Shimano Alivio drivetrain, Suntour 100mm fork, Tekro V-brakes . (Good enough for him for now) I don't think it has disc mounts, so BB5 down the road may not happen but may buy some nicer Avid brakes in the future.

cleaned it top to bottom sunday so start fresh, lubed up everything, new brake pads front and rear, installed new sunline v1 riser bar and odi grips, resealed the tires with more stan's then got the bike out on the trails! nice to start the season off with a fresh bike..

need to tweek the handlebar setup though...my shifters are too close to my hand and hit my thumb knuckle on downhills (need to shift over) and my handlebars need to tilt up/back more

are you saying 10 miles is a long ways away? I have one local single track and everything else is 2+ hours away!

I had some redneck neighbors in Idaho that rigged up a weedeater motor to their mtn bike. that thing would haul ass down the street! haha

thanks man...it does the job well...probably only thing i'd change now is to get bigger rotors on the brakes but it's does the job well...just over 28lbs i'd say now so the uphills aren't too bad and handles the downhill quite nicely with the revelation up front and float r in the rear and the tubeless conversion has been one of the best mods i've done to it so far (up there with the race face crank swap)

    Yeah.
+1 on the tubeless conversion. My new Fuel came with nice tubeless-ready DT Swiss M1800's, but I didn't like the tires it came with. Swapped them out for some different tires that just happened to be TLR as well, so I finally took the plunge to figure out what all the rage is about. I can now run 30psi, whereas 40psi was the minimum before (without pinch-flatting). Makes a HUGE difference in traction, probably more than tread design. Corners and climbs sketchy stuff much better. I am sold -- except for the high price of the DT Swiss sealant, geez that stuff is expensive!

I now find myself slowly dropping pressure on my tubed 29er wheels to get that same level of traction, and trying to be careful not to pinch flat.

    Yeah.
This exactly, no reason for spending $45 for a single tire on the DT Swiss stuff. I don't think it is compatible with the DT Swiss stuff, so I'll have to clean everything out and start over, but worth it for the price difference.

I had to get the DT Swiss kit to start with and it came with sealant, which is apparently most of the cost.

hmmm...i converted my dt swiss 4.2D rims to tubeless using the stans conversion..i don't know why you'd have to clean everything out...but i'm no expert

seems like you need to put new sealant in the tires every few months anyway, but maybe cleaning the old stuff out maybe good to do eventually

    Yeah.
Sounds reasonable to me -- if for some really odd reason it doesn't work, I am really only out the cost of the Stan's, which isn't much.

Well I would take my bike to school in the bed of the truck, but I don't trust anybody. Even if I use two cable locks on the bike hooked up to the two D-rings in the bed. The parking lot in school is huge and with that many people walking around/walking through the parking lots from the dorms there's no way I would leave my bike there. Especially since it cost me well over 1k. It aint much but, it is to me. haha

I drive 28 miles each day (round trip) and if I don't go anywhere but to school throughout the week, by the time I get home on Friday I'll have half a tank. After that it just plummets. :laughs:

It's not much driving, but my class schedule is tight, and I have no room right now for a part time job. Just school, living off the GI bill, and paying expenses.

I'm a real cheap ass sometimes. Stupid gas prices! haha No matter how high they go though, I'll never trade in my truck for a car!
