Yeah, I planned on getting new hardware. And good to know about the misalignment spacers. Didn't know that the spacer actually came out.

I am going to disassemble them (just removing the coils) and clean/polish everything up. Hopefully the grime on the anodized parts is just grime that will wife off. But...I got a good deal no matter what. Probably will repaint the coils. Then send them in to get rebuild.

And good info on getting them rebuilt w/ longer shafts. I didn't know that. Depending on cost I will get that done because I was considering UCA's and a mid travel setup.

Either way I am going to end up getting some carburg UCA's. So we will see.

    thanks!

oh man, if you're taking the coils off, you'll be able to get those things looking brand new! take a mid to fine scotchbrite pad with some soapy water to the aluminum body and it should take off all of the dirt stains. you can polish them back up after that with a cloth wheel in a drimm and some polishing compoind, but i'd say skip that since the polish will not last long.

the missalignment spacers are machined pretty precisely. normally they just fall out (which is why you see them being held in with zip ties in a lot of for sale threads), but since they have some rust on them, it may take a little tug with the pliers.

based on the pictures, some of the dirt should come off of the black annodized parts, but it does look like the annodization is faded from sun exposure and abrasion, which creates that flatter, sometimes blotchy look. if you want them to look shinier like they did new, you can put some tire shine on a rag and wipe down the annodized parts whenever you wash the truck.

if you're getting new UCAs and the new shafts aren't an arm and a leg, extended travel is completely worth it.
aaaaand, assuming the top cap on those is the same as the icons, you can also have DSM slap a set of icon reserviors on those things
    i wanna say it's a $200-$300 addition.

It's in Punta Gorda. I have never been but I hear it's almost a religious experience. Usually makes the news with someone/something getting crushed. I just finished my lift.

Well at first they were going to do it no problem when I showed them the tsb, but then they noticed the vin # part and said they couldn't. When I asked if it could be done under warranty the said yes but first they have to put dye in and see if it shows up. So they changed my oil and put in the dye, now we see what happens I guess?

Now that I have these new UCA's I am thinking about making my Icons extended travel. I read that there is just a restrainer clip inside the shock that keeps them from being extended travel, I wonder if that's something I could do.....

don't you have DRs as well? there are a couple ways that extended travel is achieved. i'm not sure which companies do what, so you'll have to call and ask about your indevidual shocks.

    methods:
    -remove retainer clip
-use a shorter piston/seal assembly on the normal length shaft
-longer shaft entirely with the same inner assemblies

I am sure we could figure something out, plus if you want we can ship them through my work which would be cheaper than going directly to fed ex or ups.

Ya, I have the Light Racing, which are the re branded Icon/DR's. I have read its just a retainer clip. I am just not sure if its something that will need to be sent off, or if I can do it myself

what nitrogen fill port do the LRs use? if it's the icon needle valve, you'll have to get the adaptor to do it yourself, becasue a anywhere that will be able to recharge them with nitrogen will not have the adaptor. if it uses a schrader like the resis do, then there's nothing to worry about and rebuilding them will be cake.

if you do decide to rebuild them yourself, send me your email and i will send you a file i have with all of the valving and seal information on the shocks.

since you'd be tearing them down anyway, you maight as well put some fresh shock oil in them and redo all of the seals (shims should be ok to put back in unless you want to change the valving). the spec sheet i have is about a year old, but it says a seal kit is $35.
