My compass/temp gauge went out, ironically right after I had an emissions test done. Dont know if or how they could be related but anyway its not working anymore. I checked the fuses, according to the book it looked like like #2 in the engine box or #26 under the dash. Both were fine.

I read the post on what the usual problem is and how to fix it. I can do that but has anyone had this replaced under warranty? If I try to fix it and it doesnt work I'm pretty sure that would void the warranty. I called to ask if it would be covered and they couldnt tell me yay or nay. I have to bring it in for them to determine. If it is, good I'll happily pay the $50 deductible, if not I dont want to pay that $50 dollars for them to tell me its not covered when I can possibly fix it with some solder.

    Thanks

extended warranty? yes I would think it should be covered, that wouldn't be considered a wear and tear item and if they say no, I would just complain until you get it, for the money you paid for that warranty I think they can order you a new mirror

Its most likely the resistor in it, 501 I think. There is a thread on it. I'll look for it. I did it for a buddy and worked great.

Thanks everyone, Im going to take it in. Couldn't remember which extended service I bought so I called and it was the best one they offered which covers everything except normal wear and tear and for the cost of it they better not try to tell me that looking at is normal wear and tear.

If its not under warranty just fix it yourself. I had to do this a couple months ago and its real easy to do all you need is a soldering iron, and follow that thread that the guy gave you a couple posts ago. Its gonna most likely be that 501 resistor thats just popped off. You just solder it back on.

Took it in this morning. Had a couple other things done that I think I will do on my own next time since the labor was 3 times the cost of the parts. They tried to tell me that the compass wasn't covered under my extended warranty. They told me I had a powertrain only warranty which I knew was not the case. Come to find out each dealer may use a different extended warranty for the certified-used vehicles. (bought an 06 with 25000 on it and the waranty i purchased was for 3 years or 100000). The dealer I was at this morning (closer to work) doesn't use the insurance I bought from the other dealer and apparently no record in the computer system. Good thing I kept that little pamphlet. They called the number and sure enough it was covered. Lesson from this, buying a vehicle can be overwhelming with many decisions. Know what you buy and hang on to the paperwork.
