Dealership screw up

I got my oil changed at the dealership today and the tech failed to noticed the case of synthetic oil in the truck AND the note on the paperwork saying i brought oil. He put a synthetic oil blend in it and i had them drain it and re fill with my mobil 1. Will the little bit of blended synthetic left in there hurt anything?

So when I get my truck and start letting them do the free oil changes..should I just buy a case of oil and tell them to put that in?

I told the guy not to worry about it. I don't like when people jump down my throat for making an honest mistake (although it's pretty effing sad he did something so absent minded), so I was nice to the guy about it.

I've just heard a million times you aren't supposed to go back so conventional oil after using synthetic, and didn't want to jack anything up. Thanks guys.

 

Contrary to popular belief it is ok to mix both conventional and synthetic oil together. Early oils did have problems but todays oils are very much compatible with each other and will not cause issues (From old mechanics and from chemists)

I've gone from conventional to synthetic, back to conventional. No problems. It's a myth. A synthetic blend is just the two types mixed together, nothing's gonna happen.

 

I've put a few thousand miles on the truck since that oil change, and the engine still hasn't exploded. I guess it was alright. I'm just worried what they'll forget/mess up next time. Maybe it'll be something exciting like forgetting to put oil in at all.

 

I still have my first truck, a 74 Datsun PL620, I don't even change the oil anymore... Just add a quart every now and then. 476,000+miles later, still runs like a champ. Just add some marvel you will be all good. I'm serious about that but don't recommend it.

Your truck will be fine. I have run every oil known to man over the years and you are gonna be just fine. You can run the cheapest dino oil as long as you change it regularly. I run syntheics with everything and add lucas to it, and a lil marvel. Never had any internal engine failure on any vehicle.

What dealership BTW, I work in auto service and always good to know what dealer forgot. They probably just put in the factory stuff on tap which is no biggie, but I have seen horror stories like not filling up a car or forgetting stuff.

 

I do my own oil changes but still worry about the dealership changing it by mistake when the truck is in getting worked on for something else. Just in case I put stickers at the fill and drain holes to let them know synthetic is being used...

 

When I lived in a condo I couldn't change my own oil (living in Washington D.C. sucked). I found a mechanic that would change my oil for $10 if I brought him the oil and filter. After one oil change I realized he'd keep my synthetic and mobil 1 filter and put generic oil and a no name chinese filter on. I drove back the next day and he wasnt there, but I made the other mechanic drain and refill and put on the my filter that were both "coincidentally", according to the mechanic, sitting in the mechanics office. The funny thing is I had written on the box of oil and it still had my handwriting on it.

Luckily I've since moved to the best coast and have a nice garage to do my own maintenance...

What is it that is so important about Mobile 1 vs the other brand synthetics (or blends for that matter)?

 

I actually think Valvoline is the best right now.
