Trading 09 Tacoma for 05 Tundra?????

Do yall think it is a bad idea to get rid of an 09 Tacoma with 43,000 miles for an 05 Tundra with 77,000 miles? Both 4X4...Tundra is the Limited with leather...

Losing the truck payment would really help...

 

No...just need less debt...2 car payments...a mortgage and wifes student loans is a lot!

I love my Tacoma...just weighing what's best for the family...

 

I would sell the Tacoma and then buy the Tundra. You'll have some cash left over.

If thats what you need to do ,or get a 1st gen

 

Smart and responsible move. I like my truck, but it is what it is, and that's just a mode of transportation. You and your family will always be better off if you can reduce your debt. Check out Dave Ramsey and follow his methods of reducing debt. Once you do, buy another Tacoma for cash if you want one badly enough. I will almost guarantee that you will enjoy and appreciate a paid for truck more than one that takes financial security away from your family.

 

I wouldn't have a problem owning a Tundra. The only reason I bought the Tacoma over a used first gen Tundra was I wanted an manual transmission. The Tundra V8 also has a timing belt to change and is interference engine, so broken belt equals engine damage. I didn't really like that idea, but I've never heard of someone breaking one before a change interval.

I see them all the time for sale with 200K on them and no mention of recent major repairs.

Go for it. It sounds like you need the financial boost it would give you, and I don't think the Tundra is going to be a maintenance problem any time soon.

I don't like the ancient interior in the Tundy, reminds me so much of my 98 F150, but other than that it should be a solid truck and the 4.7 V8 is reliable I hear. GL with the trade/sale and post some pics of the Tundra if you get it.

 

I just did the exact opposite trade. went from an 05 limited tundra to the 09 tacoma - both great trucks, but the Tundra drives like a beast compared to the Tacoma. the turning - parking - navigating is a whole lot better in the tacoma. the size of the Tundra is great if you are staying away from cities & parking garages. Good luck. consider the MPG too.

 

4.7 is going to be due for a timing belt (and not a bad idea to hit the water pump while it's open) at 90k.
It is an interference engine so don't skip it.

Make sure the lower balljoint recall has been done.
Depending on when it was made, the front caliper upgrade recall may or may not apply.
My '03 was made the last week of October '02 and it had the upgraded brakes.

I just went from an 04 tundra to an 09 Tacoma. Getting same miles per tank but with a smaller tank. If I wouldn't have gotten such a good deal on my Tacoma I would have gotten another tundra without any hesitation.

You will love the Tundra and the interest saved on your debt will cover the MPG increase

my tundie ....06 with 42000 miles...no issues for me other then dash rattle
