Thanks Jesse, just picked my truck up today, read your message and did it as well. Nothing new to add, as it works like you said. If it helps anyone else.., after unplugging the battery I just clipped the wire without pulling the plug.

Why would'nt you? It allows you to have more traction in 4 LO.

Come on over for a beer and I will talk to you more as to why having more traction is better... While TRAC is not as firm a slip stopper as A-TRAC, it sure makes Low Range work 10 times better for you. As it is now, TRAC in High Range is actually more able to climb most hills than Low Range with no traction control or locker... and that is just poor as it can burn your clutch or wear your automatic unneccessarily... Climbing slow with max. torque is the way to go, and less possible to damaging your truck.

I did this mod a while ago. I haven't had much chance to use it. Works great. I'm still wondering why it doesn't come from the factory this way. There has to be a good reason, and I would assume they did not just overlook it. Hmmmm...........

The reason might be that to need extra traction in low range, you would naturally get the Off Road TRD with the extra traction (A-TRAC) and locker, in low range.

To get a 'Sport Truck' (as in Sport Car), is to have something fast or 'slick looking' for the street & highway. They offer the 4WD on a Sport for the winter snows... just like many passenger vehicles or mini vans have 4WD or AWD.

I am sure they are surprised at how many Sports are sold, or maybe not? I still meet Sport owners who, if they knew what A-TRAC was or what it or the rear locker could do would have gotten the Off Road, instead.

They didn't study the details and their salesman failed at explaining correctly the world of difference between the Off Road and the rest of the Tacoma line.

There is always the after market locker option, if you are rich enough after buying the Tacoma!

I seriously drift in and out of reality while reading your silly posts but...did you just say they only market the Sport for the winter months?

...and didn't you realize the wonders a ATRAC after you bought...leased your Offroad? Damn it...you are one lucky SOB!

I was forced to get sport. I sure as shit didn't want painted bumpers. I push stuff accidentally on purpose all the time. I was forced due to DCLB. Damn it. It's cool though. When I see people with speedway blue and a chrome bumper I imagine myself asking if they want to trade bumpers. I never do though.....what?

You must be out of reality, as I did not say any such thing about the Sport. That is the opposite of the logic I use.

I said they offer 4WD on the Sport (as they do on other vehicles) for such things as snow...

In the minds of a Japanese auto maker, why make a SPORT truck work well off road, when there is an OFF ROAD truck already made?

The Off Road was the original TRD dating back a dozen years+... all with a locking rear differential (why I get them over and over).

The Sport was created in 2005 to offer a 'sporty' looking trim to the truck. That has nothing to do with traction or off roading.

In the minds of an auto maker, this is my answer to the question here, why doesn't the Sport have traction control (or a locker) in LOW RANGE...

Because if you wanted that kind of traction, you would get the Off Road 4WD Tacoma...

If you want a Sport to have that kind of traction, then you can spend $$$ of after-market lockers or other stuff... as many of you have done!

Yes, Thats what I did. I had to pull a little white plastic part on the wiring connector... pull it up, then a paper clip to release the wire...... but first disconect the battery.

The long bed is available on non Sport Tacomas... Just not the Off Road because doing so wouldmake it less than trail worthy... Even me with a standard bed double cab, have damaged the back 12" of under body and bumper, off roading... anything longer would have been in serious trouble on that road!
