"The Dark Tower" Series, Any Fans?

Anyone else read Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series. There's gotta be a few around here.

Started reading the series again a few weeks ago. About 200 pages into "Wolves of the Calla" at the moment.

My least favorite book is Wizard and Glass, it's not as bad I rememebered it, but the whole romantic aura of the novel, blech.

Not sure about a favorite out of the series. Can't decide.

 

Drawing of the Three was my favorite. The Dark Tower was my second favorite. Only reason it's the second was the ending was so unexpected...
I'm definitely a King fan and love the Dark Tower series. Haven't read them in a long time though.

 

Also it would've been much more fitting (to me) if Roland had Jake with him as he entered the tower.

 

I am a huge King fan as well, especially the Dark Tower series. I can't remember each book specifically now, but didn't Wizard and Glass go back in time? I thought it was a nice break to the story, although it didn't carry it much forward in the present time, which was a little disappointing after waiting for it to come out. The series is sitting on the shelf right next to me, maybe I should pick it up and read it again as well.

 

Been awhile since I picked one up, at least since VII came out which would have been 2004. Lulled through V until the end then really felt like it got back to "old school" King/Dark Tower with Song of Susannah.

Jake should have been until the end, I was not disapointed that it was Shemmie who went though.

 

I'm almost done reading through for the first time, on Song of Susannah. I skimmed this thread seeing a few spoilers so I'll reply back when I finish the books, but don't want to know what happens just yet

But yea, I really have enjoyed this series.

 

I've always felt King kinda had "that part of a book" where he just rambled on and on. It took 300 pages for Insomnia to get any good, Wizard and Glass and 1st part of WOTC felt like his "ramble."

I read them all last summer on my Iphone, I don't know how they escaped my reading radar for so many years, but I thoroughly enjoyed them.

Just noticed last week, randomly and unexpectedly, that there's a new volume coming out April 24, 2012 "The Wind Through the Keyhole". I will be downloading it.

 

Oh snap, now I really do have to start reading them again so I can read this new one in between the right books! Thanks for the info!

 

I was recommended this series by another avid reader. I was never really into King's stuff, but I read book one to see how it was. Well, I was not sucked in like a majority of people. I am just simply not a fan of King's writing style. I find it cool that this series is coming to screen though.

 

Wha??? Another Book?

 

The first book was a little boring. And if youve never read much of king you wont see how he ties in so many of his other characters from other books into this series.

 

You could say I'm a fan of the Dark Tower series. I have all seven books; hardcovers, paperbacks, audios, etc. The hardcovers are numbered and signed, except for DT1 (way out of my price range). Plus all the very early Gunslinger stuff in the Fantasy & Science Fiction magazines from 1978-1981. And all the Gunslinger Born comic books series, signed. Yep, I'm a huge fan of the Dark Tower series.

I goofed on my earlier comments about Shemmie, duh. It's been a long time since I read VII, 8 years.

I'm glad I read it again, espeically VII. I think when it first came out, I was in to much of a rush to read, to journey, to see. I read with tunnel vision. This time around I was able to relax and enjoy the story and take in the scenery. By Gods! How the things I missed in that book, the underlying answers mostly. The true end I think screws with my head a little, still, but I get it more, I can...accept it.

Will the horn change anything at the top? Ka is a wheel. All I can think is no, it will always be something. Even if Roland has the horn as he crosses the field, could Gan whisper to him that this time he has forgotten one of his two guns? The one Suze took? I think it's quite possible.

I remember the 1st time I read VII, my thought about the end was: Those who don't learn from the past, are doomed to repeat it.

Jake and Oy...it's so hard to keep the eyes dry. It really is.

VII also leaves me wanting more, badly. There is an obvious open end with the Tet Corp. Talking of their ventures were for another day. Shemmies story once he leaves Meijs and ends up in the Devar-Toi. I also wish there was more written from Oy's perspective, the brief glimpe into Oy's thinking in the mindtrap left me wanting more.

 

I've never read the original version of The Gunslinger, but I have heard that King went back and modified the book a bit to match up with the rest of the series. Like in the modified Gunslinger at the very beginning, Roland has that moment of "deja vu" where it felt like he was just in the tower. The original book reportedly didn't have that. But then again the original one was written, what, 20 years before the others? I think I was able to read the first four back to back but then had to endure the wait for the last three books, so I've never read them all the way from start to finish without having to wait.

Once I get moved and I get to unpack all my books I'll have to take up reading them again. Or I wonder if I could download them on Kindle.

 

Any more info on this new book? Where does fit in the series? I've read the series a couple of times and I've read every book King has written, except his first werewolf book, and yes, you can see MANY cross overs to his other books within the DT series!

Ahhh...okay. More like a fill-in that only requires a passing knowlege of Jake, Susan, and the other dude with more knowledge of book IV (?) that deals with Roland's youth.
