Removed coal filter, Also installed AFE air filter. Roof rack with custom diamond plate air diverter.
Go stock with AFE drop in.

out of all my "research" on cai for my tacoma i noticed the stock intake with a K&N or AFE drop in filter is the best choice because the trd and urd are pretty much the same unless ur going for the look or "premium"...also unless u plan on installing a S/C just stay stock for now...I plan on wasting my money soon on a trd cai only cuz i like the look and sound when u smash it....just dont want any drone

Yep, save your money. Stock is the best combination of good filtration, power and noise. The air temp at the sensor is just 3 degrees higher than the outside air with a stock intake, so you aren't going to do any better with another system. Without forced induction or head work, nothing you do to the intake or exhaust will do anything for a street driven vehicle. Opening up either end usually drops performance under 3,000rpm and increases performance over 3,000. That's on a really good system! A mediocre system is more likely tp drop the power everywhere.

At the minimum, take the drop-in. Purely from the cost savings of purchasing standard paper elements over the life of your truck. Recommended change is 15K on a paper filter, at a cost of about $15, and a drop in being about $65. After a few years, you are throwing away money.

Performance gains on the drop-ins are negligible.

I love honest posts :D Hell, if you like the look or the sound that's as good a reason as any. Performance exhaust on a street rig is the same deal. I'll probably get the exhaust end when my cats die just to get rid of the cats. None of this stuff makes a difference up or down that anyone can feel through the butt dyno. It's all psychology. That's why vacuum cleaner manufactures deliberately built the noisest machines they could for decades! Every consumer poll showed the loudest machine to be deemed the most powerful, even if it was the least! Nothing has changed :D.

I got a good deal on a volant, haven't put it on yet, but I don't expect any gains with that alone. I'm also getting a header, which might make a difference.

OP, from my research, the URD TCAI is the way to go. My criteria may vary from yours....Best location for velocity & cool air, well engineered, lowest cabin noise (other than stock), best ambient temps. There's a couple of potential drawbacks you should consider....cutting the front radiator support and potential for hydrolock in deep water...very deep water.

    Search URD TCAI....good info!

Would you get more HP if you did the CAI and Cat Back exhaust?

I know when I did it in my old gen 1 Tundra I noticed. I didn't do cat back system just muffler. Then again that was a V8.

I'm not sure if you would notice much on a V6.

I'm pretty sure a CAI and good aftercat would yield a gain. Add a URD MAF Cal to that and it should give some good pep and a few more horseys.

Pelfreybilt Fabrication underbody protection, Wheelskins leather steering wheel wrap, Body Armor rear bumper with tire carrier and custom tube front for those "aggressive" days.
Stock with drop in if you do lots of city driving... TRD CAI if you do mostly freeway. Either one, you should wrap it in Exhaust/Header Heat Wrap it will make a difference. Unfortunately, K/N and other CAI's are not yet C.A.R.B. legal in Cali.

    And get a cat back!
