with avid's stuff it's 20% off right? that plus 70-80 shipping, I can't understand how people are asking more for their used stuff than a new one would cost, i know there is the wait time, but.....

 

procomp seems to be pretty good for that kind of stuff. they make a cool looking light bar for the front. been around for years, but not many people use it because you have to drill two holes in the front bumper.
they also make a an ok spare tire carrier for the bed. it's a little pricey though.

 

There was a used (like new) Pro Comp light bar on Amazon this morn. for 150 shipped. Sent a E mail but it was sold. Still looking ..

Jason, would you happen to know if these older tacomas have a separate voltage regulators from the alternator.

Trying to figure out this issue with the lights flickering brighter and dimmer...

 

I believe it should be built into the alternator, but i would have to do some research to double check that before i can say it's a fact. Not at work, at home trying to get chores done, but interupted too much by mikes thread. I will try to research it in a bit to get you a better answeer.

I took the truck to autozone to have the charging system checked, and they said everything was fine except for the battery...but I never thought that a bad battery could cause the lights to flicker while I was driving...unless it has a bad cell??

And when I mean lights flickering, the lights will get brighter (headlights, dash lights, etc..) for a couple seconds, then go back to normal, and will do this several times. Its completely independent from engine speed and whether or not the A/C kicks on. The A/C blower also blows harder when it does it...so its some sort of overvoltage.

 

When I replaced the alternator on my 95.5 Tacoma the voltage regulator was built in.

In reference to the lights flickering it is usually most likely a ground issue. I would start by checking the ground at the battery and work my way over the truck from there.

 

Jason do you happen to have access to the little clips that hold in the factory stereo? Also the same ones that hold the trim piece on for aftermarket stereos...one of mine fell back in the dash and I cant find it...and everytime the bass hits it rattles ahah.

or can they atleast be picked up from a dealership for that matter?

I would also think it could be a ground, but its not really "flickering" like the lights are going on and off, but they get brighter (abnormally brighter) and at the same time the AC blower will increase in force, and then it will go back to normal. Sometimes it will do it for a few seconds, and sometimes it will do it very briefly and go back and forth.

I see what you mean after reading your follow up post... it almost does sound like the regulator. If you have a good multimeter you could hook it up at the alternator with it isolated from the battery watch for voltage spikes.
