You can ship practice grenades and replicas via UPS. UPS will ship all sorts of stuff, including black powder.

    Edit:

Sorry, I just saw your new announcement on your first post. Yes, they may charge you extra to ship such a "hazardous" item. Be careful in this day and age of paranoia though when carrying around an inert grenade. It's amazing how many places have been cleared and put on lockdown in the past few years due to someone finding a dummy or practice grenade.

Somehow a disarmed grenade and two extended mags with ammo seems to me to be on two different levels

The postal service has gotten paranoid lately about shipping a lot of stuff, and they wonder why they are losing money to FedEx and UPS.

It is illegal to ship some types of loaded ammo via the US Postal Service and you could face some hefty fines if caught. UPS will ship modern ammo. Black powder, etc. ammo can be shipped UPS but must be labeled so that they can take hasmat precautions. You can't ship most explosives through the mail.

    USPS Regulations:

    341.21 Nonmailable Explosives

Nonmailable explosives found in the mailstream must be immediately reported in accordance with POM 139.117.

Nonmailable explosives include, but are not limited to, the following:

Small Arms Ammunition. Ammunition is classified as a Division 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, or 1.4 explosive, depending on the degree of hazard. Ammunition that is regulated as a Class 1 explosive and designed to be fired from a pistol, revolver, rifle, or shotgun, as well as associated primers and blank cartridges (including those designed for tools) and propellant powder for use in any firearm, is prohibited from mailing.

    Edit:

The above applies to black powder and simulated black powder ammo, older black powder ammo and older smokeless powder ammo that uses mercury fulminate primers. I believe that modern sporting ammo has been downgraded from Class 1 explosive to ORM-D. I've heard that it's up to the local postmaster's discretion whether to allow modern ammo to be shipped USPS ground. It's hard to find clear and specific info on the matter.

However, I did find the regs on an inert grenade:

    Replica or Inert Explosive Devices
Replica or inert explosive devices that bear a realistic appearance to explosive devices such as simulated grenades, but that are not dangerous, are permitted in the mail when all of the following conditions are met:
    a. The package is presented by the mailer at a retail counter.
    b. Registered Mail service is used. (Registered Mail service is only available for items mailed as either First-Class Mail or Priority Mail.)
    c. The address side of the package is labeled with “REPLICA EXPLOSIVE” using at least 20 point type or letters at least 1/4-inch high.
