Barbecue Question

Just picked up a "Grillin Pro 3001 3-Burner Gas Grill". Assembly was easy enough. My question, since i have always used charcoal and am new to propane... When i turn the valve on that is on the propane tank, there is no noise, no smell. However, when i turn the knobs on the grill itself, i hear a hissing noise coming from what sounds like the valve attached to the grill. (that made sense in my head). The hissing lessens whenever i turn the knobs to a lower heat and goes away completely whenever the knobs are put back into the "off" position. Is the hissing that I am hearing "normal"?

There is a shut off on the propane tank itself and the knobs act as a shut off also. The hissing noise you hear should be coming from the burners and is propane coming out. If everything is hooked up correctly, it is normal.

When not in use, I'd recommend shutting the propane off on the bottle itself, and not just rely on the BBQ knobs.

Normal...

High = More gas flow = more hiss = bigger flame = hotter
Low = Less gas flow = less hiss = smaller flame = less heat than on high

Grilling and barbecuing are the same thing where I'm from (Illinois), but absolutely NOT where I live (South Carolina). What I do on my Weber gas grill in my backyard is absolutely not BBQ in the South.

Sorry for the tangent. Just found the collocation of threads humorous. Oh, and if you don't hear that hissing your grill won't ignite because there is no gas getting to the ignition switch.

 

Yes...I've accidentally bumped one of the knobs before and come outside the next time I grill to find an empty propane tank

 

For sure...In recent years I've taken to unscrewing the hose from the LP tank as well.

up north, to me, usually lacks what we here in the south call "flavor"... i just got back from the great up north and couldn't find enough seasoning to fulfill my taste bud needs :-\

 

We Yankees make the best chili, though. Our BBQ lacks seasoning.

 

i didn't even think to look at the main page. i went straight to searching for "bbq" and "hissing" and got nothing.. then it was off to the off-topic area. i cracked a smile as well when i read this though. I'm one to dislike repeated threads as well and i semi-apologize

 

i will have to try some chili next time I'm up that way. for now, i'll enjoy my spicy foods

 

My point exactly. There's nothing like southern BBQ! I've been trying to find a southern transplant with a BBQ restaurant up here but no luck so far. I've been getting my fix through internet recipes and cooking my own stuff. I hope to get a smoker this summer

 

Hell yeah! I can make a batch of Chili like nobody's business! I didn't realize that was a northern thing, haha.

 

LOL, did you read what the thread was about? A different kind of grill...and not the gold caps rappers sometimes have installed on their teefs.
