    ... ^^^ ... F16TACO has some good points.

Unfortunately, the US Military often buys what is best for the Senator's & Congressmen's (districts) and/or the military mentors (Special Generals & Admirals).

And not what is best for the mission intended by that branch of the military .... but they do make a mistake occasionally and buy what is best for the mission.

This not only happens with aircraft ... but with ground based equipment too.

    Alright, back to the planes...

These two beauties were featured in a 1927 film that was amazing and won The very first Oscar(s). If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it. Because they didn't have special effects the actors were trained to fly... And film themselves, so the cinematography is amazing. Absolutely nothing like it to this day.

The film is Wings. Check it out. ;)

Edit: I will also add that every crash scene in the film is an actual stunt pilot crashing a plane... No models, the real deal. Pretty amazing considering the only injury the entire production was a broken neck...

tankers are important.... but if i had a dollar for every time they canceled and we had to shorten our sorties, and even miss our main objective i'd have alot of dollars....

Ive never missed a sortie of mine. Now, you might be thinking of another tanker base.

well from what i heard..... there is a certain tanker squadron that we've had to cancel on a couple times, and AWACS has quite the name for itself... i've stepped to the spare about half my flights, even red x'd the spare... there were a couple times that these tankers would have to hold up in orbit for a LONG time to get down to a landing weight, since the off load was missed... so they cancel on us as well.... guess i cant blame them i guess....

i had a short flying career... so i'm bitter towards both...

LOL, "We have Schmirnoff." That thing literally took every inch of the runway to take off.

Definitely the p51 mustang for all around

and the b52 bomber because it's fucked soooooooooooooooo much shit up. The fact that an airplane has been around since the 50's and is still used today is nuts. That's what I call excellent engineering.

X-1 or X-31? I don't remember but I'm sure it had an "X" in the name.
