I would agree with this if the bike is at the end of line of traffic, but not in the middle somewhere. There is no way that could be a safe practice, driving in between cars. You can't predict what people will do, and if they don't see you and decide to move, open door etc... I have almost taken bikers out switching lanes, cause I just didn't see them, no ones fault, I could not see them, and them all of a sudden they tried to pass as I tried to switch lanes. Shit like that happens all the time. So I don't think its smart to be riding down in between cars. I can even accept the shoulder more.

I don't mean to offend you, but I can tell you don't ride. You would have a different mind set if you did. M/C's have to ride as though we are invisible, becuase we are to most cages.

It is not too dangerous for a m/c to go 20mph and split if traffic is going 10mph. It IS dangerous to sit behind cars and to hope the car behind you stops and doesn't rear end you.

If a cage is changing lanes and almost takes out a m/c, then either 1) the cage is not looking for the biker, or 2) the biker is splitting at too fast of a speed.

What pisses cages off is when m/c's split going 50mph when traffic is at a standstill. That is dangerous and stupid.

Or clipping mirrors. I agree that I don't see how it's safer moving from one blind spot to another, in between cars. Not everyone is the same distance apart so you run the risk of hitting mirrors.

I know I'd be pissed if a biker clipped my mirror splitting traffic.

As for Evil Monkey's "12 year old mentality" maybe traffic is sitting so long because assholes like the bikes "cutting" force other traffic to wait while the do that. As opposed to everyone moving together at a consistent speed. I can't count the number of times I've been stuck in traffic due to idiots waiting until the last second to merge, and forcing everyone to stop so they can get over. So what kind of mentality does it take to say "ME FIRST!!!!!" and weave in n out of traffic like that?

While many riders act like that, it's the ones that act like complete douches that ruin it for everyone. I look out for bikes, give them distance, etc. But it pisses me off with they get cocky, act like they are invincible, and I'm the one that'll pay for their dumb shit if something happens.

But like you said, if the biker is speeding who's at fault? Chances are the cage for "not seeing" the biker. Which I think is retarded. If you're acting like an idiot in a vulnerable position and get creamed, it's your fault and you deserve it IMO. Don't want to get creamed? Don't do dumb shit. Like I tell my kids: you don't want to get hurt, don't run in the house. Seems simple enough right? lol Give the respect and observation you want from us cages.

As just mentioned you clearly don't ride as it's very evident that you have little knowledge on what it takes to stay safe out there . Even if your in a line of traffic sitting between a car in front and back in stopped traffic doesn't always mean you are safe. I probably would have gotten tagged in that position by an asshole riding the shoulder who saw a gap not noticing the gap was there because it was me filling it. Had I not been watching my mirrors and saw what said asshole was up to he more than likely would have tagged me because he darted into that gap which I had already moved out of after seeing what he was up to and positioned myself between the two cars in both lanes in front of me. Another time I was behind a car in traffic and literally had the car in front of me back into me because he decided rather than wait in traffic he would throw it in reverse so he can re-position to be able to pull into the driveway of a strip mall that he was already past. Unfortunately, I couldn't back peddle the bike fast enough to get out of the way and laying on the horn had zero effect on this asshole. Needless to say in heavy traffic now I will safely lane split myself to the front rather than be a sitting duck again.
This video is obviously shot in Europe which lane splitting is perfectly legal most places over there. As mentioned there is probably more that led up to this as the driver he recorded it seemed to have turned his camera on to catch the action.

No offence, and stop saying cages. Sounds ghey! :p Anyway, we are talking about in traffic, how is it safer to ride up in between moving cars or even stopped then to be in the middle of traffic? At the end of the line? then yes not safe. Thats what I'm saying. Why would it be illegal in most states I might ad, if it was not safe to do so?

Wut?! Then sit in the middle, but moving in between cars is not safer. There is no way you can tell me that. I'm not trying to take anything away from bikers, but there is no way that sitting still in traffic is not safer than riding in between cars. This is including bicycles too.

Edit, oh and I have rode a moped!:D

My worst fear is being creamed by some fucking 18yr old bitch texting while sitting behind cars at a light. Only reason id split to the front at a light is if we were allowed here. Not like a bike is holding up a car anyways.

my word, thats ignorant and crossing the line. how in any way should the appropriate response to anything be rage induced, attempted murder or injury to a person. thats just disgusting. if a person in the parking lot rams a shopping cart into your door would you slam on the gas and aim right for them with intent to plow into an unprotected person with your 2 ton car?

clearly in the video the driver of the car was trying to block and bully the bike out of the way, which was dangerous enough (and pointless). then when the guy got mad and kicked her car (it was a pretty pathetic kick btw) she got into some serious road rage and aimed to plow into him. i honestly hope nobody here honestly thinks that is what their first response would be in a situation like this.

bottom line is people have totally different opinions of traffic. Traffic in NY is far different than here in Cali. In NY ive never had to sit in full leathers in 115 degree weather. splitting lanes is as much for the rider safety as it is for making sure you dont get 50+ broken down bikes every 10 miles. Ive also never had to sit in traffic for 4 hours to get 50 miles like here in Cali. Basically its stupid for someone on the east coast to speculate about the west coast.

The vid looks like italy. those people are fucked up with their driving habits. they drive on sidewalks, drive on the wrong side of the road, they generally suck overall. splitting lanes is 100% legal but the mentality there is more of the 12 yr old "no fair" you see shit like the vid every day. fist fights over parking spots etc.

Without knowing the area and the situation you can speculate all day long. Best to just watch it and move on. she was definitely in the wrong for her reaction. She could have taken his plate number and he would need to pay for the damage done
