Just a good reminder to be vigilant on the road. Don't let your vehicle give you a false sense of protection.

    That's why they invented 4x4.

I'm not downplaying the tragedy, but in those conditions I'd have 4Hi locked for sure, so that the back end doesn't get squirrely. Second, people need to be very very aware in those conditions of their vehicle. I've only had it happen once where I just about did the exact...same...thing. 2 lane highway, going up a slight hill, oncoming traffic (Of fucking course) and a small patch of ice. Next thing I know I'm 45º facing the oncoming cars, then I'm pointed to the shoulder and thank the Mayan gods of the Harvest, I regained control. You need to know how your ass end feels at all times and let off the gas immediately if it doesn't feel right.

I dunno how in the fuck I'd even pound out a patient care report coming on scene to that.

For sure, the biggest thing is learning not to over steer when you counter steer into a skid. Cause then your ass will come over on you again and it's game over.

You expect a government run body to be updated?

What a asshat remark... How do you know it wasn't in 4wd. Ice don't give a fuck about 4wd at highway speeds.

Whats really heart pounding is having little to no experience with icy driving, and having to run blue lights/sirens to something in the middle of one of the heaviest snowfalls my town has seen in many years

I came very close to experiencing something very similar to the video...was driving approx 25-30 mph and following 2 other patrol cars...as we approached a bridge I let off the gas and stayed in the front 2 cars tire tracks

Halfway across the bridge my ass end decided it was time for me to slide sideways into opposing traffic...my counter steer landed me promptly with my drivers side door facing a set of headlights

Luckily about that time I regained traction and got back into my lane

I learned that day that icy conditions on the roads are the suck and completely unpredictable and I have no interest in ever doing it again

Must not be watching the same vid. I see him going slower than the vehicle that merged back right, and barely faster than the delivery truck. Appears he got into the "slush" that caused him to lose control, and 4wd would not have mattered at that point in time.
