Guns from estate sale

A friends dad passed away unexpectedly. She never knew the extent of her dad's gun collection. I've been considering a hand gun since Wisconsin passed a concealed carry law, but mostly for home defense at this point. I'd also love the fun of customizing an AR-15. My friend is liquidating the estate as quickly as possible and has no interest in making a profit from sales. Which means, I have an opportunity to purchase several guns at a very low price.

Can anyone offer me incite as to a first time gun owner buying from another private citizen as to what legal hurdles I'll have to overcome? In Wisconsin, I believe a simple hunter's safety course is all that's needed to own guns, which I have yet to complete and I intended to also apply for a concealed carry permit at that time.

Sorry for the lame basic thread. I have no knowledgeable gun-owning friends to ask.

 

In GA you would just pay the money and tell them to have a good day...does wisconsin have registration?

The guns are being offered to me stupid cheap. I'm planning on buying a few because I know I'll be paying pennies on the dollar.

Stores are not allowed to sell hand gun in my city. I'd have to drive 40 minutes one way to the nearest hand gun dealer. I don't actually know if there is anyone other than Gander Mountain around which only sells rifles and shot guns.

We're allowed to conceal carry hand guns in our capitol, but we cannot bring in cameras, and we cannot buy hand guns in the same city as out capitol. How backwards is that?

I guess I'll have to take a drive this weekend.

 

just call up gander mountain and ask what is needed to buy a gun. If all that is needed is a background check then you are good to go. just pay the guy money and be on your way. some states have registration, some dont. Lots of people also get the background check confused with registering a gun. Most people I know think that the background check paperwork is actualy registration papers...

for peer to peer sales in TX there is no paperwork involved at all. Give them the cash, take the gun, shake hands and be on your way.

Buy all the guns you can now.

Resell them later on. You will make money no matter how you slice it.

It would be stupid to limit yourself to a few guns, when you are guaranteed to make money on all of them. See if your friend will cut you a bundle deal, like 10 guns for a grand or something...

Definitely do research or contact someone who can help with the values.

Your friend does not need to fall victim to those who would unashamedly give her $100 for what they know is a $1000 gun. Her dad would not have wanted that either as he was obviously a gun collector.

If she wants to cut you a great deal on something that is fine, you could consider it "payment" for helping the family get fair prices for the rest.

Or they could become heirlooms to other family members as another worthy alternative.
