Anyone with 12" TC shackles can you measure something for me? Im looking for the spread at the top of the shackle. I just need to verify the measurement with mine.

It should be the same as the spread at the spring. IIRC its 3" (2.5" for the leaf and .25" for each bushing) which will give you .25" clearance on each side of the frame. So the hanger tube should be the same width as the springs with each of them having bushings removed

Tc shackles have an offset to them. Not completely straight they have a offset/taper from top to bottom.

Interesting choice. I've never run out of engine in the desert but I've definitely run out of suspension.

Your right, now that you say it I remember noticing that in pics. Hmmm I built mine straight, wonder what the advantage/disadvantage is

I would go with rear LT first  Like MJP2 said, without suspension you cant put that power to the ground

since we are on the topic of superchargers and what not, im thinking about going the turbo route since it produces more power higher in the rpms, which is where my truck is always running at.

now heres my dilema, kinda the same as zach. my truck has 180k miles on it, a bunch of HARD miles on the red line. i can either just keep it stock and wait till it blows and throw something bigger in it and turbo that, or i can turbo it and when it blows up just rebuild the 4 banger?

A lot of people build them straight. I think they did it so you can run the same side bushing top and bottom.

Putting the S/C Setup on a Taco is pretty simple since TRD & URD Have taken out majority of the guess work and tuning...a turbo is a whole new ball game, you think you've hit "speed bumps" with suspension part of the truck, a turbo setup is going to create many a headaches and many a problems...just hope you know what you're getting into, the tuning world is a totally different game

turbo what youve got man. turbo systems for the most part are universal to most motors. if you decide to step your engine up, you can always use the turbo and intercooler (might need to re-route some pipes) but other than that should be good.

i would pay someone to do that, i would fuck shit up if i did the install myself lol.. i guess the only deciding factor is the moolah

a turbo system for a 4 banger would work in say.. a v8????..

well that isnt true 04lttacoma. a 4 banger turbo would work with a v8... might not work the way you want to, but it would spool and throw some kind of boost into the engine. but i was more or less discussing the waste gate, intercooler, most fittings and piping... you will have to upgrade turbo at some point to have it match the boost needs of a v8.

but riddle me this.... i have already swapped a v8 into a toyota... and i can first hand state it was the WORST idea ive ever had. why would you swap in a v8 instead of just going with the 3.4?

well i found a 3.4 the other day for 550, but then id need a tranny and shit so i figured i would just wait it out for a while.
but if im going to go through the hassel of doing a engine swap with the 3.4.... why the hell wouldnt i just nut up and do a v8?

i ended up with a 351W backed with a t-5 in a 92 pickup. worst idea of all time. sure you have tons of power and insane torque for a vehicle so small and light, but honestly it was a freaking waste. the weight of the thing killed it, i pushed it back 6 inches and was still nose heavy, ( another reason to say fuck a v8... the proper way to do it would involve at least 13-14" further rearward than stock to make it even half worthwhile).

there is a video of how the truck sounded while i was trying to tune the damn thing... sure it was loud as piss... still a dumb ass idea hahahaha

i had custom 4 over arms on the front with a dual stage 12" coilover etc etc etc. sure you can valve shocks for any weight... doesnt mean that your truck still wont nose dive the second it becomes airborne.
