get the guy down closer to $10K at least. Believe me he knows a truck with a salvage title is a tough sale. Look everything over and drive it more than 10 miles, test out all the functions like windows, ac, 4x4, lights and if all comes back clear then make a ridiculously low offer. you have a ton of negotiating room and i bet he will come waaaayy down on price. good luck whatever you choose.

I would definitely check with your insurance company. I know Allstate will only insure half of NADA on salvage titled vehicles. If your getting a loan your lender may require full coverage, which you may have trouble doing.

Just food for thought. Good luck.

Screw that, I wouldn't even pay $10k for it. I think the price needs to be half what he's advertising for it to be worth while. It could have been repaired perfectly but there's no getting around the salvage title and the question marks that come with it. At $7,000 it's a reasonably good deal and might be worth the risk, at $10k, probably not, at $14k, hell no!

Make sure your insurance will cover a salvaged vehicle. Some won't.

If you buy it buy it cheap no more than 60% of the blue book value and you should never have intentions of reselling it because resale is crap and you may have to repair a couple other parts so keep cash on hand. But the key is making sure the frame is straight, have a mechanic look it over. There are advantages such as lower insurance costs, lower taxes to pay, but don't jump on it before you have it looked at, you would be surprised what a good cleaning and a new paint job can do to a totaled truck.

*** Most people would avoid a used truck lifted by the owner, or one supercharged because you don't know who did it and how it was treated. But to be lifted, charged, and involved in an accident you're buying something thats had added stress to every aspect of the vehicle***
