It's sort of a ways out, but sometime in the 1.5-2yrs my lady I are wanting to relocate to Phoenix. We've both traveled there plenty of times over the years (my grandma used to have a place in the Sun City area when I was much younger). She's a nurse and has a standing offer at a clinic down there from a doctor that splits his time between PHX and here in Omaha.

However, we don't really know anything about what areas are good/bad/safe/sketchy etc. We've looked at what our money can get us home wise and we're capping ourselves in the $250-$275k or less range.

We know the people that run Pork On a Fork, East of 17 on Deer Valley so we've got some friends down there that we plan on asking at some point, but we're not ready to clue them in to our plans yet.

What are some nice areas and/or areas to avoid?

Ummm avoid 19th Ave and Broadway.......... Well anything in south Phx is not really good. It really all depends on where your jobs will be. I'm in Chandler and love it! And Sun City is for old folks so not there either.

 Yeah, Sun City is retirement zone!

We've seen a lot of nice places and areas online in the east Glendale, Cave Creek, Mid-North Scottsdale areas. Many north and south of the 101, east of I-17.

MMMMM move close to POAF. that place is tasty!!!

Really though it's kinda hard to tell you as all around there valley there are pockets of nice areas and not so nice places. You can start anywhere and move one major street in any direction and the whole area can feel different.

100% true. My house is nice, good neighborhood. Right across the street, GHETTO apartments! Cops are there almost every night.

I guess I'll speak up for the West Valley. :D

North Glendale, Peoria, Surprise in the Northwest Valley.
Avondale and Goodyear in the SW Valley...Buckeye has some real nice areas but is BFE.
The prices are lower on this side as well, $100k get a decent newer model home or a somewhat older (10-15 yr old) larger place. $200k get you almost a ranch :)...
...the only real bad thing is the traffic can really suck, especially I-10 in the morning heading into Phoenix.

OME all around. SPC UCA. This and that.
Gilbert for sure. Nice houses go for that price range. I am in the NE corner of Warner and Gilbert roads. One way in and out of my little settlement so no to little traffic and houses are in the price range you are looking at. Neighbors are great. It is so quit here. Right now is the time buy!! Your job will sort of decide where to buy. I work next to the Mesa gateway airport so Gilbert was good for me. I moved here one year ago and I LOVE ARIZONA. This place rocks. I can carry a gun legally. place is clean. Roads make sense. I can be in the desert cruising the trials and shooting guns in 1/2 hour.

Down sides are stupid fucking snowbird drivers and stupid fucking inconsiderate drivers. But over all this is a great place.

Another checking in for far west! Like others have mentioned it depends on where she and you both work, nice pockets mixed in with bad. I used to own and operate a computer repair company and have seen straight gunshots ghetto a mile from a super nice neighborhood.

But buckeye is nice, open, and in the desert, super cheap houses, just far from town. Avondale north of the i10 is nice, south it depends on where you live. Goodyear is nice, mostly. Im biased against their leos though, check the news, so refuse to live there. Verrado, which is buckeye, is similar to 29palms from what I heard. Little ritzy paradise in the middle of the neighbood, similar to estrella mountain ranch.west phoenix is ghetto, very. Glendale and peoria are growing, but at the same time have nice older developed neighborhoods with trees. Even north phoenix around 40thst has some nice areas with huge trees, but is offset by alot of surrounding ghetto.

Just a bunch of old crap
Better yet, let us know what part of PHX she would be working and we'll make recommends from there. You might find a nice place, but if your commute is 50 miles each way, you'll shoot yourself out of frustration. Which clinic would she work at, or at least major cross streets?
