Heated Seats

Hello All,

I really have enjoyed reading all of the wonderful information found in this forum. I had a question to ask about heated seats. I had new heated leather seats installed and I don't like that they put the switch on the side of the seat. Would it be possible to re-locate the switch to the door panel next to the window controls, is it as simple as extending the wiring? Thanks in advance for your help.

pics would really help in terms of seeing where the switch is. My initial thought: extend the wires under the running boards and in to the driver/passenger door would look very clean. If I were paying the $$$ to have someone else install the heated seats, this is how I would've asked it to be done.

 

I'd put in the center console next to cup holders if you can, this is how my 4Runner came stock and less worry about trying to get it wires up and through the door

 

Wow, that's a much better idea than the door. Lots of space to work with in the center console.

 

In Canada, heated leather seats were an option when I got mine. Here's where they put the switches, if it's any help.

 

Good idea on the pics and you are right, I should of done a better job of doing my homework on where the switches should be installed. Live and learn.

 

I guess I would consider installing them in the console area. I wonder how hard it would be to disassemble the console?

 

Can you show a pic of where they located them yours on the seat? I am about to install leather and heated seats, and I would rather not put them on the console. Sometimes I put fast food there.

Regarding taking apart the center console, you really only need to take off the cover, which pops right up. Just grab it and pull it upwards and that is the piece you will cut for your switches. I pull it up all the time whenever I clean the truck, or when I need to update my gps (I have the gps console for my all-in-one unit hidden under that piece).

Edit: Sorry, now I saw your pics. I want to locate my switches there.

 

To me, that's an awkward location where they put yours at. I would think that it be odd reaching down there to turn them on and/or off.

I'd also go for the center console.

 

It is definitely an awkward location. I think that I will relocate to the console. As was previously said, it will be much easier than going to the door and I, as master of the cab (unless my wife is there), will have ultimate control.

 

Heated seats are a wonderful thing.

 

the 2012s have the perfect location for heated switches.

Right under the stereo area, above cubby hole, theres the A-trac and USB/AUX switches....they are flanked by two empty switches ( one on the left one on the right ...perfect!) which are the exact same size as the switches for the 2010-12 4 runner heated seats switch, im sure the rest of you can do the math form here on.

Aesthetically, I was alright with them on the seat. The problem is a logistical one. First, the location is not very easy to get to, especially while wearing my watch. The biggest problem is the passenger side. If my passenger leaves them on, I will have no way of knowing that they are on. That's why I went back to the installer and they agreed to move them to the console area.

We had the dealer in NH install our heated seats and they did a top notch job. Our switches are in the same place and very easy to access, and out of the way.
