Current US pennies are only 2.5% copper... and 1.7% is alloyed with the zinc core.
The plating is pure, but it's only 0.8% of the total weight.
They were 95% copper until 1982.

The Canadian penny has been 4.5% copper (plated steel) since 2000, so it's scrap value is higher than the US... but it's still not much.

In America no one carries cash/coins because everyone is using "credit". Fucking line at a store takes forever due to these asshats using plastic everywhere

not now - I was when I was walking through BC with $20 in $2 coins leaning me over cause of all the weight. I hate change more then plastic. that shits annoying. get rid of it all and round everything up to a buck
