Hey all. Now that I have figured out that my stock rims are steel, I need some advice. I picked up the 17" FJ alloy rims to replace my 16" stock steelies. If I do moderate off-roading (no rock crawling, at least yet) how would the alloys perform? I really am trying to get some money back and end up with one set of wheels/tires (no space at college for a second set). Should I sell my stock steelies and keept the 17" ones, or what is your advice?

alloys are pretty good for about everything...from everyday driving to a good amoutn of offroading....they are alot lighter than steelies too. steelies are great for hardcore offroading(of if you have room for another set). keep the alloys.

for what I would use it for, most likely A/T, but I'm only buying them if I can get a deal on them so I'm not going to be that picky!

any suggestions on good places to get deals? What are the performance impacts of getting muds and using them for A/T and getting A/T's and running them in mud? There is a local post in the buy sell trade thread for used BFG muds for cheap. i want 265s but they are 255s, however I am not picky.

m/t tires are alot heavier, and probably not that great on the road, as a/t tires, for the most part are good for a number of driving conditions.

Ok thanks a lot for all the info! Right now I am running th stock dunlops and they havnt failed me in any of my mild offroading applications but I would definitely like to put some nicer A/t's on my 17" rims.

call different places and see if they match prices. i'll tell you this though.....you usually get a good deal from discount tire.
