k thats what i thought, a guest teacher in this riflery class i'm taking was explaining the '86 cut off as well as f4 form, $200 tax for various things like silencers and what not

i didn't know about most of it. i feel the general public is mislead on the legality of all of it.

Finally got an optic last week! EOTech 517. Put around 1500 rounds down range and shot a couple matches behind iron sights so I figured its about time. I got it sighted in today and I'm pretty happy with it so far. Was able to hit a 9" plate at 150, 175 and 200 yards 4 out of 5 times. I wasn't using my trigger reset or slowing my breathing much neither, wanted to simulate being in a match with a shot timer behind my head. It was so nice to actually see the target and not have it blocked by the front sight. Hopefully I can get a G33.STS magnifier soon, suppose to be shipping next month. Next match is Sun and I pretty pumped, I'll bet I shave 150 off of my total time. At least I hope I do!
Here's a shitty pic of it.

So here's a quick question for some of you more knowledgeable AR guys. I just built a new CMMG upper (16" middy, AR bolt, standard Car buffer) and it is overgassed. When the brass is ejected, it hits the leading edge of the deflector and lands at the 2 oclock position (and dents my brass! :goingcrazy:).

So whats the fix? start with auto bolt? heavier buffer? new barrel?

I'm surprised you're getting that with a 16" middy, that's normally a problem with the 16" carbine. I'm running a 14.5 middy and it's perfect in a nice little pile at 4:00. Actually, my range buddies would probably prefer that mine be a little overgassed :D

I don't think the auto bolt would make a difference. I'd go to a heavier buffer. The standard CAR buffer might be a bit light. Either a heavier piston (takes a bit more to get it moving), a heavier spring, or both.

Yeah.. thats what im thinking and I was using regular XM193. My other 2 middys dont have this problem. The only thing that can cause this is too large of a gas port. I guess I can just use really light loads in competition :D

I would definitely start at the buffer and go from there.
