Hi all so today at work the subject of premium fuel came up and basically everyone said it is and i quote "BAD" to be using premium fuel in my truck.

Now I usually fill up with premium when i am going to run highway and will put reg in if i know i will burn a full tank doing city driving,

I find my truck rund better for sure on the highway running premium.

So my question is first off, Is it "Bad" to be running premium before i get my truck S/C, and if its not bad would it be fine running it in the city?

And i was wondering what everyone does so im going to put up a poll.

I run premium in mine all the time. I just like the way it runs on 91 octane better than on 87.

Our engines are designed for use of premium fuel. However the computer is able to compensate for regular fuel. There is a gain from running premium but flip floping fuels does nothing for you.

It is absolutely not bad to run premium in your truck. Quite the opposite.

As for whether it's worth the money, that's an individual call. I run premium because with Shell I can avoid ethanol that way, because premium fuels usually have more additives in them, and because the engine is rated for it. Toyota even publishes different horsepower numbers for the V6 on premium versus regular. Personally, a few horsepower doesn't make any difference to me, but I like knowing that the engine is running at its most efficient.

You would probably be better off finding ethanol free fuel than worrying about running premium. I ran ethanol free as long as I could before switching to ethanol. Price is higher than premium here for it. I got at least 60 or more miles on a tank better than with ethanol. But no not bad to run premium in our trucks.

I work in oil/Gas industry so cost really isnt a problem (right now its crazy to even run reg) and i do find it runs better on premium. i like using the best in my toys (yes my truck is a toy XD) I hate to say i asked because i wanted to prove his GM driving ass wrong haha. But as soon as they bring out the S/C im going to drop the moneyz on it aswell as a TRD intake and a aftermarket exhaust to make my baby purr. anyhow im still in for more oppinions and advice and i will maybe for the time being find Ethanol free gas and then when i get the S/C ill switch back to premium.

Usually 91 means no ethanol vs 10% ethanol when using 87.

I am a firm believer that is what makes the biggest difference when switching from 87 to 91.

I might try a tank of premium to see if I notice any difference.

Yeah it will take more then a tank and run it as dry as possible..... I made the mistake of filling with a quarter tank left and it did nothing, then i waited till a wile after fuel light popped on then filled the tank and then a few more tanks and noticed a difference.

It isn't worth it at all if you have a four cylinder.

If you have a six, it might be. as the others have stated and argued.

You'll go crazy if you keeping thinking that.

I'd prefer ethanol free over 91 gas because the only thing that running higher octane ratings does is keep the gas from blowing up to soon due to higher compression ratio's see in different cars. Example if my dad were to run 87 in his Boxster, which has a compression ratio of 12.5:1, then the gas would ignite before the spark plug lit it which could be catastrophic for the engine.

Our trucks will see minimal to no gain with running higher octane and your wallet will see maximum loss from it. However it will not harm the truck at all to run it if you chose to do so. It may see a little bit of gain which was such in the case of my old S10 I ran 89 and it was smooth as could be but rough with 87. It could help if you lived in a higher elevation area but most places don't bother selling anything lower than 89 in the mountains.

Haha. I don't think its "Its not that I don't look, its I don't want to look" its more "I can't comprehend."

And to the OP its personal preference whether you run 91 vs 87 has been discussed/debated/argued about for a long time.
