Police want a monopoly on carrying guns so the average citizen has to rely on them for protection.

When asked why I carry a gun I say "Because a police officer is too heavy and anyway when seconds count, the police are only minutes away".

FIFY. Professional courtesy is not a right...but knowing your job should be pretty important...specifically considering the folks who watch this area so carefully.
One or two stories like this...Not good- but you can fix it before it becomes a trend...Sadly...This is a trend now...Stupid.

I worked with police for quite a number of years in EMS and found most to be professionals. However, there were others that I was more than a little leery of. When you give a badge, gun and a bit of authority to someone who already has thuggish tenancies you can get someone who can and will turn on even a fellow emergency services professional if they feel that their authoritative "territory" is being violated. One would think that psychological screening would weed these people out but it doesn't seem to be the case.

2006 -- NYC EMT arrested for having his issue EMS badge in his briefcase.
2009 -- Oklahoma State police stops ambulance that is transporting a patient then chokes the paramedic.
2010 -- CHP arrests a battalion fire chief for "blocking traffic" at the emergency scene he was running.
2011 -- NY Fire chief's emergency vehicle ticked by state police at accident scene while he was treating a patient.

Wear a gun into a restaurant and there's a good chance someone will call the cops. When the cops arrive and ask you to step outside, complying with them is probably your best bet. Going back to the table to get the gun is probably going to create problems.

Its not a gun rights issue -- its a stupidity issue.

he should have declined to let them inspect the gun in the first place...i wouldnt have gone anywhere...but i would have told him after my dinner i would be more than happy to converse with him

That said no one has ever called the cops on me while i was eating dinner....but cops have taken it upon themselves to try and pressure me into doing what they wanted(without instruction from the management) someone did call the police on me in booksamillion once but they allow you to carry as long as youre complying with state law

The bar is considerably lower to become a prison guard than a police officer.

Maybe its just me, but it seems like once the proper documentation was presented and it was established he was legally carrying the gun he should have been allowed to reholster the gun or hand it over to the officer and step outside with the officer to talk. I wouldn't think leaving the gun on the table out of the legal owners control while they are outside talking would be the responsible thing to do?... I'm certainly no expert on the matter but I wouldn't feel too comfortable just leaving it sitting there while i step away..:notsure:

I like how the official police statement makes it seem like the sergeant had to stop him from retrieving the gun. when obviously the sergeant just didnt like the fact that Arroyo jerked his arm away from his grasp.

"So, not sure what your saying? You saying its ok, because of that?" I was simply stating that the requirements to become a prison guard are typically a lot lower than to be a police officer. Having been a police officer, we did not consider correctional officers as equals.

"he should have declined to let them inspect the gun in the first place...i wouldnt have gone anywhere...but i would have told him after my dinner i would be more than happy to converse with him" And that may be the dumbest thing I've heard all week. Thats the fastest way to get your ass dragged from the booth.

The restaurant of course now has a PR problem and may lose business because of this. Most Americans just want peace and quiet eating out, not having a gun visible. They should post a sign banning weapons and/or the carriers should conceal it.

Hit the Quote button bottom left of the post you are referring too, FYI, small one next to it if you want to quote multi people. Makes it easier to follow.

Anyway, you may not consider it, but you are all a part of the same team so to speak. At least IMHO of course, just as what I do, I consider myself on the same "team". We both are here to help people and control crime. Again IMHO.
