So I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Tacoma (8 more sleeps!!), and looking through the specs for the bazillionth time, I can't figure out why the auto gets a 6' bed, yet the 6 speed gets a 5'? For the access cab, they both get 6 feet. For some reason, only the double cab manual gets the shorter bed. Even the salesman said he had no idea why. It lowers the curb weight by 90 lbs and gives it a tighter turning radius, but neither of those seem to justify the shorter box. Any ideas?

    Marketing?

They come with auto or manual in all configurations except double cab longbed in the US.

Yea, you guys get a heck of a lot more options and choices than us Canucks. We don't get to choose the bed. We only get what comes with that model.

The access cab & double cab short beds are the same wheel base just different body and beds...
But the DCLB are "too big" according to Toyota to have a manual transmission :notsure:

All based on market. We just don't have the population here to sustain that many options.

Took me months to decide on whether I wanted the Long box, or the manual transmission. I went for function > preference.

Well FWIW , you can't get a manual in the longbed in any DC

You'd think they'd just have the long box then. I just found it odd that that one thing (manual + double cab) determined a short box.

I wen for preference. I'm hauling a 25lb mountain bike and my fat ass...don't need the long box for that. And it still has more room than the Mustang I'm trading in. Out of 10 cars, I had one automatic. And I desparately missed the manual. So, manual it is.
