WHAT A THREAD!!! so I just read all 11 pages and I didn't see the answer I was looking for; so here goes...

I'v got an '01 DC TRD w/ an A.R.E cap. I'm gonna go with the Wheelers 5 pack (possibly w/ the AAL if I need it, I haul heavy loads every now and then) and 881's up front. (add the 10mm spacer if I get the AAL)

Seeing as the 5100's are on B/O for several more months and I need to remedy my 150k mile oem suspension imediately; I'v decided to spend a little more $ and go with OME shocks for both front and rear.

My question is should I go with the Nitrocharger SPORT or original? What is the difference??

If you do the aal, then you might want to do the 10mm kit. You could buy just the Extended Stud kit and install it when you assembly the parts, then later if you need the 10mm spacers you can buy them then.

i have an 03 extended cab v6....thinking about the 882 setup...i will be running an arb and winch. truck has a topper and i do frequently haul around quite a bit of weight so im leaning towards just an add a leaf. I used to have an 97 with 2.0 SAWs and billy 5100 and add aleaf in the rear and i loved that setup but im not sure i want to go the coilover route again....whats your thoughts? i would really like to see 2 -2.5'' of lift and a level stance.

this is how she looks currently....all stock just bought with 77,000 miles. tubes steps are coming off asap

Here is my set up. I have the OME nitrocharger shocks and 883 coils. In the back I went with the Dakar leaf packs with OME shackles. I am hoping the front settles a little to help the angle of the CV's. I just picked up a full set of Skid Row skid plates, so that should add some more weight in the front, then I need to pick up a winch!

Nice setup. Wish I went with 882 coils. I was happy with the 881's until they settled/sagged :( I'll probably swap out for 882 or adjustable coil overs in the near future.

Not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure the Nitrocharger Sports have replaced the "original" shocks for all Tacomas. I'm not sure you can even get the "origial" ones. However, even if you can the Sports are tuned specifically for the Dakar springs and will give you the most optimal ride. But since you are going with the Wheelers springs i'ts a crap shoot. I don't know what the differences in spring rates are between the Dakars and the Wheelers springs and that will have an impact on the effectiveness of the shocks with different valving. Regardless I think the Nitrochargers are a better shock, but they can be on the short side if you need LOTS of travel out of them.

    bunch of crap

i was told by Slee a few weeks ago, they dont offer the normal anymore only the sports. ome changed the valaving and updated it as a whole. i can actually tell a difference between new and old. I did NYCO's second gen as well with new sports. night and day difference.

as for length, thats correct what box said. we measured NYCO's droop travel with out shocks connected. they were actually limiting his travel by about 2 inches. so he swapped to another brand. so depends on what ur going for. i also have billies on my dakars, but i also have longer shackles...

cross posting and I'm a half breed with OME Nitros and 883 springs from Wheelers (thanks Dan for suggesting the 883s over the 882s) up front and All Pro expeditions and billies in the back (Expos were on sale last month so I bit).
    old garbage... it was time:
    Tacoma-old-suspension_d94ea4637434d8c83aa8ca318fa56357b008bb49.jpg
I had to do some serious cutting to get the old rusty crap out. The front driver's side took about 5 hours to get out, passenger side took about 1 1/2 hours (pretty smooth), then the rear the shackle bolts I was able to knock out, but the other bolts both had to be cut out. It was quite the project for just one guy.

old suspension stance w/helper springs (I tow a boat in the summer and put lot of tools and gear in the back, so it needed help):
    01-tacoma-dc-6_bd1fdda7b2be54f9515f02850ea25cab235c22b9.jpg

Post suspension upgrade, with about 2-3/4" up front and about 4" higher in the rear.
    Tacoma-3_2857019b734f77565f42949920195fa7ff7ddcb8.jpgTacoma-2_b1a9fa11c527b5092cded57ddc5b7fc37ad9dc34.jpg
Just hauled about 400-500 lbs in the bed tonight and had the cap on and it rode incredible smooth. I'm super happy with suspension choices.
Pictures above are with no load in the bed.

Nice! Are the pics of the finished product with the truck loaded with weight? That has a sweet stance if it is unloaded...I've been debating between expos or dakars. I've just thought the expos would make it too high in the rear with no weight in the back.

I need to take some pics but I have had the full OME kit including the medium coils, shocks, dakar leafs, shackles, diff drop for about a year and a half with 32x11.5 MTRs on stock 15x7s and really like it. I haven't wheeled it very hard but I load it up with over a week's worth of camping gear including 30 gal. of water and about half as much beer and it still handles the load very well with only minor sagging in the back. It handles surprisingly well as well. I think I'm going to get 15x8 3.75 backspacing wheels next. It rubs a little at full lock and I'd like a wider track.

unloaded except the weight of the fiberglass cap on back (about 200lbs). When I first put the expos in I thought it was way too high, but it settled a little after driving it around and putting the cap on. Loaded up it sat even with the front (about 400-500lbs in the bed).

Switched to 882s in front.. In this pic I had just but them on. They should settle about .5" more. Camper shell has been removed, that reduced a tiny bit of sag from the rear. Nitrocharger shocks all around, Dakars in back with OME shackles. May switch to longer shackles in the future,
