Help a noob!!

Hello to all you audio guru's. This is my first dabble into the world of car audio. I upgraded my HU from the stock non JBL system to this sony unit (http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/se...productId=1005532&navigationPath=n32150n32153)

This weekend I installed new speakers in the front and rear doors. They are Alpine type S speakers like the ones here. I put 6.5 in the rear and 6x9 up front. (http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/product.php?model=SPS-69C2)

While the highs and mids are much better than stock, the low is lacking. I was wondering if I should upgrade to an amp and sub or if I should return these Alpine coaxial speakers and replace them with these Pioneers (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Products/CarAudioVideo/Speakers/D-Series/Pioneer/TS-D1720C)


As I said I am very very new at this game and would appreciate any advice you can give.

make sure the speakers are wired correctly, make absolutly positive you wired each speaker with the correct polarity + to + and - to - on each speaker and the head unit, if you cross 1 speaker, both will have little to no bass, an easy way to test is to pick a radio station thats all static. turn the volume up a little and fade from right to left and back to center. you should notive a much more full and better bass responce in the center verses the sides. if 1 of the speakers is wired wrong there will be more bass on 1 side or the other verses in the center.

 

Do you know off hand which is the + and which is the -.

 

a component set-up up front is going to sound MUCH better than just 6x9 replacement... changing them out is going to greatly improve improve the sound but a sub will give you more bass, so it depends on how much you want to spend and how much stuff you want to add to your truck.
