why does everone do this...

how come everyone is always talking about bilstein 5100. arent there other shock that work with this- i mean i know that there good shocks(i was actually about to order them right now but started doing more research) but to buy the toytec lift setup and then buy them for a little less than $300 and just set them at stock seems like a waste of money. isnt there other makers for cheaper price but still god quality?

Same here. Money available. But having trouble justifying price for a street truck. $275 for 5100's ,$350 to install(best price I found so far).

I could install the rears, But the fronts I do not want to fool with. I do not have the tools for removing the springs. I do not have any way to remove & take somewhere, since this is my only vehicle.

 

Though I've never done it, I know it's not that difficult for someone with basic mechanical knowledge and the right tools. That being said, take advantage of the poor economy and find someone willing to do it in their garage. You could place an ad on Craigslist and get someone to do it for $100. It it only takes them 1hr, that's good money.

I found a dirt bike mechanic who got fed up with the management at one of the local bikes shops. He does the work for an fee that is half of what the dealer changes and he knows his stuff. Does it right out of his garage and has an ad on criagslist.

Another option would be to stop in at a small auto body shop and ask if they would do it for $100. If work is slow, they may do it quickly for you.

 

$350 installed (including shocks) or just for the install? You can just take the stockers off and bring them down to any shop (Midas, Meineke, etc) and have them swap the springs onto the new shocks for you. Should be under $50 for that. That's what I did on the last 2 trucks.

 

I suppose some of it depends on where you drive your truck. I've not tried the Bilstiens but do have a 2 1/2" lift with OME front and rear (Dakars) with stock UCAs. Street/highway driving is flawless and off road is also. And I've never owned a suspension that handles washboard as well as the OME.

 

so is there a cheaper oslution for the 1500s?
